Qualicum Beach

Post by flying4dollars »

Okay so this isn't quite related to aviation, but this thread will include a reference to it, I swear :)

So the other day I flew over to Qualicum with a friend, stopped in for lunch then blasted off back to YVR. This was my first time in or around the area. It was a beautiful day, and it really added to the ambience of the community. I was very impressed with the scenery and the layout. Gorgeous looking town in a great area. Does anyone here currently live there or commute out of there at all? I know KD Air operates out of there and Comox/Nanaimo isn't too long of a drive to an airport with an AC/WJ sched.

Anyone know how much real estate is around there? Is it affordable or is it expensive?

Thanks!

The Airport Pie at Qualicum Beach is not as nearly as good as Chilliwack Pie. Stay on the mainland.

I live 15 minutes north of Qualicum and commute to a Northern Medevac Operation. Fly in/out of Comox with Westjet. The Island really is paradise.

I second that and would also mention the rest of the food at the Final Approach restaurant is excellent!! Chilliwack has quantity and IMHO flying to Qualicum is a nicer flight.

As for the commuting aspect, I have a friend who lives just outside Qualicum and ferries to the mainland for work every week. Seams to work fine and I can imagine having a couple ferry rides a week would give some good relaxing space from all the hectic parts of life. I'd do it for sure. As well, Comox is not a long drive away on a good highway with little traffic.

Have you tried the Old Mill in Courtenay? ,as good as the Salmon House in North Van although the menu is not quite as big, but the food is well worth the five minute walk from the airpark.

The food at the Final Approach is great! Can't say I've had the pie yet, but I will try it next time I'm there.

Food is quite amazing at the Final Approach, it was a typical greasy spoon until new operators took over a few years back now it is some of the best!

As for Qualicum it is a very very nice area, although it is statistically the oldest community in Canada in terms of average age. So if you are younger or have kids it can be a bit trying.
