Could someone send me the name of a contact at Porter via PM so that a recipricol jumpseat agreement can be set up with my carrier?

It's a U.S. major.

Thanks

According to people in Porter, it may never happen because it would be a "pilots only" benefit and other areas complained and blocked this before.

Anyway:

VP of Operations: Richard Wells
Director of Ops: Piyush Gandhi
CP of Q400: Simon Fenn

Good luck!

Tell the flight attendants and counter agents that they are free to go to flight school, build 3000+ hours, and come back as a pilot and use the recip agreement. Until then, they can button up!

Or they could try to negotiate their own version of a jumpseat agreement. I wonder if this has even been tried?

Great idea Donald and if we pilots as a group had a pair then we could stand up for ourselves. Alas it's usually the other groups that have demonstrated proper use of their "pairs". if you want proof of this go spend a couple of hours in the YYZ employee parking lot and note who gets into and out of the nice cars.

Apparently AC offered them a recip JS agreement and it was turned down as it didn't benefit "everyone" and would undermine the "team spirit". Hmmm, I'm feeling thirsty. I think I'll go get some Kool-Aid now.

ATTENTION PORTER PILOTS :

The ass ramming is already starting at your company.
Stand up NOW and put a stop to it.
It will only continue and grow if you don't act quickly.

My suggestion : utter the word A.L.P.A.

It does wonders with realigning poor management attitude.

Just ask the WestJet guys.

Tyrell,

Beware the culture of equality when taken too far. In the end nobody gets any perks just to level the playing field - it sucks. The culture of equality has caused problems at WS and we would have been better off if each department would just mind their own damn business and be happy for those who score a few cost neutral perks.

Beware the precedents you set as a young company. WS has learned that the hard way.

Obbie,

Getting to the present version of our contract had nothing to do with a very small group that believed that ALPA could solve our problems.

Reciep jump seat agreement is a PILOT perk, and if the FA's want it, then they can apply for it themselves, not whine about what they don't have.

Porter pilots, this is a perk we as pilots enjoy, stand up for it.

Simply a pilot perk. I am not aware of any recip agreement that involves F/As. One of the biggest labor problems at AC is the "me too" clause which basically gives F/As the right to just about anything the pilots negotiate with AC management. What a joke. Careful Porter pilots.

Actually jjj that was exactly my point. I am actually with AC, not that it makes any difference as we are all brothers and sisters in the same business of flying airplanes to bring home a paycheque. I feel strongly that as a profession we have slipped a long way down and have tolerated the lack of respect for far too long. It's time to stand apart from the rest of the crowd and be recognized for what we really are. WE DESERVE IT! Especially after what we have to go through to get here. :blackeye:

CHEERS!!!

I heard something from somebody that said something about Porter pilots contacting A.L.P.A. too. Good for you guys, I was blown away when friend of mine who flew there said there was no jumpseat agreement because of - as he put it - "some B!t(h in the FA training department didn't think it would be fair to the FA's"!

wow!!
I'm a firm believer that we as a group are going to sink lower as years go by unless we put a stop to it, and tell people in the back cabin or those in the office that what WE and THEY do are two very, very different things!!

STAND UP FOR YOURSELF GUYS!! No matter if you fly a Navajo or a B747, you all know what you do everyday and how you got to that position!

Yeah?

How about if you went back to school for 3 years, worked as an apprentice for 2 years writing Transport Canada exams, submitting logbooks and then finally came back as an AME-E avionics technician.

Would this qualify?

Well, if your employee group - which I think you would agree has a job description significantly different from pilots, for better or worse - negotiate for the perk yourself, then yes. But if you just suffer from the all-too-common "me-too" attitude, and want to benefit from something you did nothing to earn, then no. Want to be a pilot? Be a pilot. Want to be an AME? Be an AME. Want to be an FA?...see where this is going?

I don't sit around whining about what other professions make or what privileges they enjoy and I don't. I go out and become one of them if I want what they have. Not that complicated.

(Not saying you were whining btw, I see the "class envy" more from FA's who have no clue about a pilot's job and just can't understand why after their six-week training they don't make the same as pilots...)

I don't have any kind of class envy, I just like to be considered a professional along side of pilots and it pisses me off when people forget about us.

It took a load of work, money, & a full 6 years to get the ability to sign that maintenance release at the bottom of your log page. It's no joke.

The JUMPSEAT was created decades ago, BY PILOTS FOR PILOTS.

It is a Captain's courtesy.

It has nothing to do with F/A's, mechanics, or anyone else.

It is an extra seat in the cockpit reserved for pilots.

It was taken away (in a certain context) by September 11th. We now call it an offline jumpseat, whereby instead of a pilot sitting in the actual jumpseat, is given a seat in the back of the plane.

It should be free (unlike some carriers like Westjet charge for it... pity).

This equality bullshit needs to end somewhere.

Porter pilots, and to that end, Westjet pilots, stand up for a Free jumpseat agreement for other pilots.

This is one of the last things that we have left for each other.

And by the way, for anyone wondering, there are reciprocal jumpseat agreements in the US by F/A's for F/A's. And that is the same situation, it used to be an extra F/A jumpseat in the cabin, which has been replaced by a seat in the back of the plane. Don't forget these F/A's still need to request it from the Captain of the ship as it is still his aircraft.

Enough is enough, take the Jumpseat Back!

I have no problem with what WJ is doing, since we offer as many 'jumpseats' to pilots as there are available empty seats in the back of the plane. While it's free for me on Jazz, there's only 1 jumpseat alloted onboard, and if more than 1 pilot wants it, they're screwed, brother. Is it fair to pay? debatable, but in my opinion, the extra seats make up for it.

Heard from the Porter guys (and gals, I guess, though there were only guys at the bar that night....) that it is back to square one on this issue.

HR opposed the jump seat agreement that was in the works and it will not happen for some time, if ever.

Feel sorry for the Porter pilots. Just when something they deserved was about to materialize.

my understanding is that the vast majority of airlines worldwide now offer unlimited seats for free

i flew from IAD to YYZ on Shuttle America in J class for absolutely free and i don't work for them

both the WJ and AC/ACJ agreements are outdated IMHO

perhaps one of these groups needs to make the first move and update their agreement

maybe WJ would be interested in taking a leadership role in this by dropping the fee in order to influence AC/ACJ to open up more seats?

Porter pilots: stand up for your right to a reciprocal jumpseat agreement!

It has nothing to do with other groups at the company!

I think the point that you might be missing here is that the jumpseat agreement is a pilot perk. Not an AME, F/A, Ramp perk. So no matter what kind of training/money it took you, it doesn't mean you earn the same entitlement given to a pilot, whether you want to be considered professional or not. In this case the jumpseat.

If you think your group is forgotten, you haven't seen our pay-stubs.

Cheers dude!

Gotta agree with him....they deserve that perk seeing how most of them are living in poverty to fly right seat on just about any airline in Canada (but you all have really nice watches though)
