It's got a Garrett.... so yeah, it's a little faster... but what an odd claim that would be..."Fastest Caravan in the World"

Best ground speed I've done in cruise was around 13,000 with 1300 torque giving 240kts, and 282kts in the descent. Standard -114A engine with cargo pod. But average is around 160kts or so between 6-10000ft in my experience.

You wouldn't think a Caravan used at a skydive operation would be concerned very much with straight line cruise speed, mostly just going up and down.

No its not him, PST has the garret van and the other has a van now but just a reg engine. 3 Turbines in the YYZ area one -6 and 2 208's. The Vans are almost next door to each other.

He said he was talking about groundspeed. Vmo doesn't matter...

Lost in Saigon,
cool website. hopefully people won't press the limits overboard on their aircraft just to set a record on this website, "i'll push the nose forward just a bit more....snap!"

Hey, I jumped out of that one! 900 HP Garrett. Climbed much faster than the 675 HP 208B I used to fly.

How much faster are we talking about? Got some climb time figures?
A source of mine also mentioned other STCs being in the works to re-engine the Caravan. 750, and 850 shp Pratts iirc.

I could give you figures for the standard 208B until the end of time... but for this ride I was sitting backwards. Definitely not used to that! I just remember the nose pitching way higher than I would have on the van I flew... and the corresponding airspeed still being quite high. I guess it helps not having a pod, as well.

I was admittedly nervous the whole way up on that trip... I shoulda looked a little closer. 12,000 feet very quickly, though.

I found this groundspeed record page on Faecbook. The person who claims the fastest Caravan groundspeed there did 228 kts. Thats not too bad!!!

Why all the hype on groundspeed. I have had 208 kts showing on the gps on a C-206. Turn it around and go the other way. What is relative is true airspeed. We should all know that. Anybody can go fast with the wind.
