Transwest Air laying off and cutting hours

Post by aimhighsky »

Just found out today that Transwest is cutting employee hours and laying off rampies up north. Is it really worth the wait on the ground for a flying spot or would instructor be a safer route ?

Ah, that's sad to hear. Apparently a northern Ontario airline just layed off their pilot/ramp staff as well. It would be devastating to finally land a job in the current job market only to lose it before seeing an airplane.
The instructor vs. ramp question is an age old one that you need to answer for yourself. A lot depends on the company you pick and if there is movement within. People tend to leave in waves so upgrades can come quick. Might be months, might be years though. I see Nakina has an ad out. That's one of the better ones to get your start. Good Luck.

I just don`t want to be stuck instructing for a long time, but with the industry where it is right now, it almost looks like I have to. Its a hard decision either to stay in the company or go build some hours instructing.

Thanks

I applied for the Nakina job last fall when they were advertising, unfortunately didnt get it. However if i was still unemployed I'd be all over it. Good gig, decent people to work for it seems and lots of time building once you go full-time.

I don't post much but I can finally say I had my first phone interview with them.

The conversation was very straight forward and everything I've been able to research about the company is good. I was able to answer questions as well as making them. I felt very well treated and I am eager to get started if I do get hired.

It is the most well rounded position I've found so far, considering that Nakina actually called me back to confirm my resume was received and to also have a nice and long conversation right away. Attractive company up until now.

Cheers.

Well I must say that being one of the rampies in the north this is news to me. So far as I know things up here are slow but not slow enough to prompt laying off just yet.....however if you consider La Ronge the north well come up north of 59 for a few months.

Best of luck to all if the rumours turn out to be true. :S
