Getting an A&P Liscence
I am looking at getting my A&P license. I have my AME license and looking for more options. Any help as to where I can go and do this, cost, etc... would be helpful.

I went and got an A&P so maybe I can help. First you have to get the proper paperwork approved by the FAA. Then get yourself a Trade-A-Plane magazine. In there are adds for several A&P lisense courses. These courses are about a week long and cram you full of answers for the FAA exams. They also prep you for the practical test wich is usually in a general aircraft hangar. This practical exam can be tough or easy depending on the person you get. The FAA took my AME lisense as enough time and experience to make me eligible to write the FAA exams. It is not an easy process. My practical was an 8 hour ordeal wich had me mentally fatiged at the end. I barely new my name at the end when I had to sign the final form. As far as the cost I can't remember as my company paid for it and it was a few years ago. Good luck. I hope this might help.

you dont need school. order and b uy the cd called prepware. once studied go to the closet flight district office to you, present your ame license if youve had it for i believe at least 4 yrs a faa rep should sign you off to write the exams. their is many private schools/colleges that will do it just search online or ask your faa rep where the closet place is to you. after the xams are written and passed you show the faa rep then just find an examiner online or once again ask the rep. once you setup an appointment with the examiner and pass his practical, which is easy, he will issue right there and then a temp license. the prepware cd i think is $150,the 3 exams are about $100 each and the examiner costs about $500 and generally takes at least one 8hr day. mine took two 8 hr days. depends on the examiner

Go to Avtech exams, Google it. It's easy and if you really buckle down you can polish it of in a week. They are in riverside CA. The guys name is Ken. I just did it, I liked it, it was nice and easy.
The form you need is a FAA 8610-2, If you are Canadian you also need a letter from your employer stating why you need a A&P.

Well unless you have dual citizenship like me. Hey its "Buy American". If you are a contractor you can write yourself a letter. Call the San Jose flight standards office and ask for Carolyn Mcarthy or Mcarthur. She was super helpful and not a typical bureaucrat, maybe she might have a little more insight or talk to Ken at Avtech as well. You need that 8610 form to be filled out before you can write. I'm in YYC so dealing with the west coast people is what I know.
Another thing is if you fail a test you have to wait 30 days, but at the afore mentioned school they can re-administer the exam right away. They also have practice tests so you can gauge how you are doing before you write. And the DME's for the practical are guys that they have been using for years, they set up they appointment and they will give you a receipt for the practical which you will not get if you set it up yourself. My practical was a breeze...
