I just wanted to say a big thanks to all the guys I worked with this summer.

Brian: Thanks for giving me my first float flying gig.
Steve: Thanks for being a great CP and being patient with me.
Kev: Thanks for helping me build that elusive float time.

It’s a shame we had to shut down the 185 early this year. Hopefully this recession is over by next year and we can get a full season of flying in 2010.

Indeed. There's a lot of selfish types out there. It's rare to hear someone say a simple thankyou. Well done and good luck next season! One thing about flying floats: it never gets out of your system!

that is nice, im sure more pilots have class too but just havent had a decent employer to thank.

Had a good season...too bad it started only in July!!!

So what do you guys/gals do in the winter time, just chillax and take it easy or do some of you's find work in other fields fo the frzen months?

Did you consider there are lots of greatful Pilots and thank yous that go around but only get said to the ones that need to hear it? I don't think it's as rare as you may think.

I'm as happy for your good season as I'm sad for Bandit's ill-fortune in having an idiot for a boss.

Generally, I like my co-pilots to learn, and have fun. I like that they can compare what they've learned to do and not do from one season to the next. Hopefully your career will continue on this path.

As for Bandit. Dunno where you worked, but I have some idea of where and what the mentality is like. Stay there if there's nobody else to work for but just remember that the wrecks around NWO were pretty much all caused by "Giver" bosses. Nobody around there now can tell you who was driving the Beech 18 wreck by Sabourin Lake, or the 180 up near Sandy, or the 402 in Deer. They're dead, and forgotten, and for the most part, the idiots that were their bosses wouldn't shut down to go to their funerals. Scenery around there was great, but I'm glad to be out of it in a place where we have rules and still fly a lot.

This whole thing started by someone just finishing their first season on floats. It was obviously a good experience and she just wanted to thank some people for making it a time to remember. It would be interesting to know how people like Bandit, etal, when they leave at the end of a season. Is it with hand shakes and exchange of addresses and phone numbers or is it going out the driveway with your upraised finger out the window. We used to end most days with a cooler of beer and listening to some Bob Seger or the Eagles. That was more than thirty ago and I still keep in contact with the guys I flew with. Hell, I'm still working with a couple of them. The float days were some of my best memories. The Bandit bunch seem like a pack of wild dogs. Just throw them a piece of meat, and when thats gone they'll rip each other apart. My time in this business is coming to an end but I've got some great memories and lifelong friends. I feel somewhat sorry for a few of you as%h#les. What do you have?

There are good people and there are bad people. The good ones make me want to work hard and enjoy my time and I look forward to seeing them and working with them. The bad ones make me want to stop flying. I used to post quite frequently on the board, but it seems there are more and more "bad" ones around and Id rather enjoy my time than read through the drivel.. so sarah. Good on ya I hope you have a great season next year and keep yer chin up.

On the 24 th. of this month there will be at least twenty five of us from the days of the Flying Fireman having a get together in Victoria.

We meet every few years because we have been friends for many years due to having all worked for the same company.

The good always out weighs the bad.

Congratulations, gang! I have now officially seen it all.

I've certainly never before witnessed so much 'modding' and that's the reason I'm posting. When you get down to the bottom of the wood pile and you lift up a log that's spent all summer on the bottom, you usually stomp on the gruesome creatures that scurry out. Seems we have lifted the last log and I appreciate that the mods have been doing their duty.

Cat, I prefer the modding - its not necessary to display them to know they're out there. Kinda like the things growing on the keel of your sailboat!

As per "short flying season but a great one" I remember my first season flying in Northern Saskatchewan back in the early part of the previous century when I got my first float plane. Despite hauling tubs of fish and assorted pieces of moose and some very strange (to me) human cargo I had the best year of my aviation career. I would have spent the summer there for free (well, maybe) and I well know the feeling of optimism, newly acquired skills and the new sense of responsibility that really marked my entry into adulthood.

The point of this thread was a good one. I am sad to think that this poster may someday be cynical about aviation, but for now I hope she can enjoy the wonderful feeling of reaching a goal and starting optimistically down the path of a career (especially true because she is a woman working in an industry that contains the largest conglomeration of misogynists on the planet).

As per the thread in the Gen section, This is a very embarrassing thread since Bandit showed up. I'm ashamed anonymous or not that somebody would come on here claiming to be a pilot and treat another pilot in this poor manner. We have our usual knock-up's on here but never do they sink to this pathetic level.

The biggest issue I had was how it sunk just because it was started by a female, I hadn't even noticed until somebody pointed it out.

The positive posters outnumber the negative ones but unfortunately we will all be judged by the immaturity of the minority.
