The Air Academy
Just noticed the banner ad.
Who are these guys?
Any feedback positive or negative?
Can you actually renew a group 1 IFR on their sim? I thought it had to be category C or D full motion for that, but their web site claims that it's a "Level 2/5 FTD".
Thanks eh.

Re: The Air Academy
I am thinking of using this outfit for a corporate pressurized piston twin recurrent training program. We are currently using SIMCOM in Scottsdale AZ and while a very good outfit, with the exchange and travel costs, it is getting a bit expensive. Anyone who has been there, care to comment on the quality of the simulation and general value for money ?
Re: The Air Academy
I've been there... The sim is great. I know 2 guys who have done their renewals there. Thinking of using them this year for annual reviews and cutting some plane time.
Worth calling...
Wow, 2 posts in one day!

I am an instructor with a flight school that uses this sim. It is really great. It is not full motion but certainly feels like it. You can do your group 1 IFR renewal on it.

Re: The Air Academy
Wow that's great to know. I had no idea a FTD could be used for renewals. Can they do initials as well? Sure would be cheaper than learning how to fly piston again.
Re: The Air Academy
Yep... I renewed my Group 1 there earlier in the summer - it was excellent! I thought it was actually more realistic IFR than using a hood in "simulated" IFR conditions to minima...I actually got to land the airplane with the engine fully feathered instead of the (somewhat unrealistic) zero thrust settings in busy VFR ATC space.
I will go back when I'm up for another renewal....
