We all get bored up there from time to time. Some more than others I suppose.

What are some of the things you do to pass the time in a more entertaining way?


Some from my neck of the woods:

- Position reports are given in foreign-to-the-area accents (Indian and Chinese are out). First one to mess up or respond normally looses.

- 'Talk like a pirate day', isn't exclusive to outside the airplane.

- Adding a jingle to position reports.

- I enjoy playing the proximity game; how close to the cloud(s) can I get while still maintaining VFR?

After almost every flight with my old instructor I told him he did a good job and could be my wingman anytime.

Using the intercom (or radio if you are brave) to do the distorted instrumentals for 60s, 70s, and 80s music.

Like:
-Jump by Van Halen.
-American Woman by The Guess Who.
-When the Music's Over by The Doors.
-Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd.

There are many more. It really helps if you have a willing partner to do the harmonies...

WRT Top Gun, it's easy to forget that if people are younger than 23, then they were born after the movie came out, and therefore may not have seen it.. any quotes, or conversations alluding to it, might therefore give cause for the young'uns to look at you as if you had three heads..
