I am currently a student attending at the Moncton Flight College. I will be graduating with my Aviation Diploma in April and right now I am just looking for companies that will hire me striaght out of school.

I will be graduating with 210 hours total time. This includes CPL, Multi Rating, IFR rating, Frozen ATPL and 35 hours on King Air Simulator.

Does anyone know of companies that are hiring now or soon for young fresh pilots like myself?

McDonalds, Tim Hortons, Wal-Mart...had to say it. But seriously though, I wouldn't plan on landing a flying gig immediately, unless you have a float endorsement (with some float time), an instructor rating, or some very good friends to get you in. Choose to go the bush route or the instructor route. If you don't want to instruct, expect to work the ramp where you do find work. Ramp times vary depending on location, company, and luck. If you choose to instruct, talk with the Flight Training Unit that does your instructor rating and ask them about employment before you drop 7000 into the rating. If not find a different Flight Training Unit that would lead to a potential job opportunity upon completion of the rating. Either way...work is out there, you just have to work hard to find it.

Does anyone know of any good companies where you can work ramp and guarantee a job after about 6 months or so? I just heard of a lot of companies where you get hired ramp but not guaranteed a job fliying their planes. Thanks

Nowhere will guarantee you a job - in any industry. There are tons of companies all over the country who will hire you to come and work on the ground/ramp. It will, eventually lead to a flying position, but the time frame is anyone's guess. The other side of that, is that you just signed on for an 'x' month job interview for that flying seat. Unless you have some incredibly valuable skill-set that an employer simply cannot do without, then there is little to separate you from the rest of the crowd with 250TT, etc... Except your work habits. Do a good job on the ground, and the seat will come soon - if not..........

Sorry - a little off topic - What's a "frozen ATPL?"

As i understand it it's basically writiting the ATPL exams when you don't have the experience requirements. You then have a set amount of time (5 years i think) to meet the experience requirements then you are granted the atpl without having to re write the exams. If you don't get the experience requirements in the time frame you have to rewrite.

I thought you needed 1/2 the experience to write the ATPL's? (a.k.a. 750 TT)

Students coming from Integrated ATPL programs providing the frozen ATPLs are exempted from the 1/2 time requirement.

Hey Kevin,

These are tough times for a lot of people and lots of guys with experience are looking for work. That being said, some people do seem to get lucky so I guess there is some movement, but it seems to be very limited. Just apply everywhere and keep applying man. Make the phone calls, go see operators that might be close to you and do what ever you need to do to get a foot in the door. There are a bunch of companies that will take you on the ramp and put you in a flying position after a few months to up to 2 years. If you take a ramp job, what I would do is go the extra mile. Work hard, be professional, and always have a good and positive attitude. People will see that. Also, don't just take a ramp job and wait for something to happen. Man, go introduce yourself to the CP, shoot the shit with him and the other pilots. Ask the CP if they have extra POH for the aircrafts that they have and study them, learn the systems, ask questions and show poeple you're willing to learn and GO THE EXTRA MILE!!! Some companies will even let you sit sideways on empty legs, if you get the chance do it, it will be a good learning experience. Don't wait for people to tell you everything, have some initiative and things will happen. If you do that it will most likely put you above the rest. That's what I think anyways. If you take a ramp jop you can always keep applying for other flying position, but at least you'll have a foot in.
