I heard that WS is limiting the hiring of JAZZ pilots due to a few recent hires lacking westjettatude. Is this true?
Re: DaveP
Maybe some Jazz pilots have gone for an interview and been rejected. I would not say they are limiting the amount of Jazz pilots because I am sure there are a lot of Jazz Pilots with the "Care Ante"
I do not think where you work is any part of the equation. You got the proper attitude they want, or you don't.
In my none aviation related profession, I have turned down many people who are already working in the same type of operation for people brand spanking new based purely on attitude. An interview reveals a lot about the person.

Kinda funny though, JAZZ has pilots abandon ship cause they will get hired by WS. WS stops hiring JAZZ pilots which causes JAZZ pilots to quit cause they won't get hired by WS.

Please continue to hire from Jazz, and give preferential hiring to the YYZ RJ based pilots. I need to move up a few more numbersDaveP wrote:Not true.
Roughly off the top of my head, we hire approximately 10 to 15% from Jazz based on about 100 new hires per year.
The attitude thing is just a myth.

Re: DaveP
I could never figure out why a pilot is good enough to fly Air Canada pax on a Jazz airplane, but not good enough to fly Air Canada pax on an Air Canada airplane. In the end, all those Jazz pilots pfo'd from AC generally went to WestJet. Why would Air Canada want to "fuel" WestJet with good pilots? Very confusing.
Re: DaveP
Oh no, didn't you hear, all Jazz pilots interviewed/PFO'd had the same chance as someone interviewed off the street...

Re: DaveP
Would mainline hiring Jazz pilots not double the training costs? Instead of hiring someone from lets say canJet, if they hired a Jazz pilot, AC would have to train the new officer, and now jazz would be out and as a result have to pay to train yet a second new officer.
I admit, I do not know how the financial system works within Air Canada, I recall that the parent now only owns like 30% of Jazz?

arictaylor,
What you are saying makes sense. The problem is, most of those Jazz pilots pfo'd from AC, end up going to WestJet. So Jazz still has the extra training costs. Doesn't make a lot of sense. A Jazz pilot is not good enough for AC, but they are good enough for WestJet? What a crazy industry.

Re: DaveP
this is why it doesn't make sense that westjet hires from airlines other than jazz if there enough qualified candidates that happen to work for jazz
it costs jazz and AC money
surely that would benefit westjet

Re: DaveP
Give it a year or two when WJ becomes Canada's largest carrier and opens up a YYZ base. They'll be no shortage of Jazz pilots jumping ship to WJ, myself included!

Re: DaveP
exactly
the supply of pilots t WJ would be endless and the demand for better WAWCON would diminish
this would also increase the demand for better WAWCON at ACJ and AC
no brainer
open a YYZ base now

C'mon Dave...you have the overwhelming support of Jazz Pilots to open a YYZ base. We'll even MC the first day festivities!
