1500 hrs plus

Post by HORUNNER »

How many of us are sitting home without flying jobs that have over 1500 tt???
Are you waiting for a good job? or a local job?
Are you actively sending out resumes?
Are you lowering the bar on jobs you will take?
I first started looking when my company went belly up got hired quickly but became the victim of a bitter Capt!!!
Went and worked a seasonal job with hopes of good jobs in the fall but havent seen much,
Is anyone getting lucky and picking up jobs right now???

HORUNNER, 1500 hours is definitely in the realm of employable time. Having a "run in" with someone can be a total bummer. We've all had our moments. However, the real issue right now is, there are simply no jobs to be had. Flight schools and aviation colleges keep pumping out pilots, like so many puppy mills, and there's just nowhere for them to go. I'd turn my attentions and efforts to a "plan B" for a while. I've always felt (and preached) a second line of work is way more desirable than working a ramp somewhere. Plus, it may give you an alternate career when, or if the bottom falls out of this industry yet again.

Soo what you are saying is I should get my instructor rating, lol I am on my way right now to the flight school. . . JK
Yeah I was mainly just trying to get a pic of how many other guys like me are out there and what they are doing. I have been sitting here on EI wondering if I should get some free training but to be honest I would bail the min I got a flying offer.

I'm just under the 1500 mark, and I've turned down a few opportunities in the last short while. I have a family at home and staying close to and having time at home is more of a priority to me. Although a do have a flying job at the moment.

On a side note regarding a second career. I gave my second career up about 2 years ago, much to my wife's disapproval to chase flying. There are always better opportunities outside of aviation, but when you go to work; do you really enjoy what you do?

Hey Doc, maybe we can entice some of these "puppies" to find an alternate career, it might make us more valuable again. I am already on my plan B and it is alright, the family is happy anyway.

I've been flying for over 18 years commercially. I have only accumulated 4,000 hr, 3,000 pic, 3,200 floats. Atpl, turbines, but no MPIC etc. Got told to get into the multi world 2 yr ago, lots of jobs, big money. Reality----no money, no jobs. I am looking for a REAL job, shit, minimum wage for a store clerk is $10.50/hr soon in Ont. That's $20K based on 40 hr a week. F@#k the multi ifr world. It is the most whoringest business going. I can't wait to get back to floats as PIC. Almost every employer in that business respects their pilots, and tries to provide an environment to make them come back.

If I don't find a decent float job this spring, it's on to making real money and flying my own plane when I want!!
