RCAP Golden BC

Does anybody know where the RNAV A approach to CYGE (Golden) went to? There's a Departure procedure but no approach now?

I saw it notamed off for a few months, that was just over a yr ago? Maybe no one wanted to pay to keep it there? Or it didn't pass a flight check?

Why would anyone pay for a GPS approach?

Hmmm.....I happened to have an expired CAP 2 (12 March 09) on the corner of my desk and there is no Golden, B.C. in it at all. "G" is right after "F" isn't it? I thought I looked at it a couple of years ago but maybe not. Is it in the CAP 3 as it is close to the Alberta border?

Let me guess; the patch is over your left eye, Pirate Pilot. Because the title says RCAP as in Restricted Canadian Air Pilot. That's why you won't find it in your CAP 2. You need an Ops Spec to fly those approaches.

The instrument procedures that are not compliant with TP 308 will now be called 'Restricted Instrument Procedures' (RIPs). RIPs will be moved from the Inventory to a new NAV CANADA publication called the 'Restricted Canada Air Pilot' (RCAP). The inaugural publication date for the RCAP is June 10, 2004.

It is a RCAP, or was. I did it about a year and half ago. It comes from the south and ends between 2 narrow mountains before the rwy. The departure procedure is still in the RCAP as it is a RNAV Departure. I wonder if they thought it was too dangerous or something. If someone has an old RCAP from 2008, it might be in there. We sometimes do ski charters there and it would be nice to know what is going on.

Shows you that it's good to keep some "vintage" plates around for the odd emergency eh? A company I worked for had a plate that was a photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy from years back, but it had 100' lower minimums... just for reference sake you know? You want me to fax you a copy for reference purposes?

Safety, Safety, Safety....... Sure would be nice to have an "out" if flying over the rocks and have an engine go south or other emergency. I guess maintaining the appraoch would cost money, after all mountains do move. The whole industry isn't about safety, its about liability. This would be a great example to put to the media - travelling public as to what actually goes on.

Maybe your right. Maybe TC can't keep up with the renewal process or something?

Would be Nav Canada to renew it or a private company.

I think the BC Government should at least pay for the review since they may need to get into the place in the event of a medevac or emergency. I don't understand how they could just let something like that lapes. I hear now the Revelstoke RCAP has also been taken off.

Who pays for a GPS approach? OR better yet, what $$ does it take to have one renewed/re-certified/etc...


I understand the RCAP and OpSpec. I understand the cost in updating the (R)CAP's because someone renamed the fix, but how is threre a fixed cost in maintaining a GPS approach?
