Re: Air Transat Fleet
321 would seem to make more sense than -800's if for nothing else common type rating (??), parts possibly, and a highly subsidized offer from EADS. Although I couldn't tell you range/payload differential between the 321 and the -800 - maybe that's the show stopper....
I wonder what CanJet will do with their -800's when AT gives them the boot? And doesn't their contract end in 2014 not 2016? Maybe they have some options to extend....And Enerjet won't be around long enough anyway for that little bit of western stuff AT donates to them now...someone else will pick it up or CanJet will fire an extra machine out to YVR to pick up the slack.

A321 does not have the legs we need. The Canjet contract has a 30 day cancellation clause in it just like the Westjet contract had. The word at Air Transat is Transat AT has recently cancelled 60000 seats with Canjet. The wonderful world of vacation Travel.
Re: Air Transat Fleet
Wow that's a lot of seats, that must be a pretty big impact for the airline losing that much business? Crazy world of vacation travel is right!
You start with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck.
Re: Air Transat Fleet
Yes 330's make sense for Transat.
I have also been hearing for a number of years that Transat was first going to be getting a fleet of A320's, then for the last two years a fleet of B737-800's.
Just a thought though, why would Transat, whose history has been one of fiscal conservatism and solid management of its business, want to get into the huge cost of a new type, hiring and training and maintaining when it is able to maintain its thinner routes with a carrier already set up for that purpose (CanJet)that is likely more cost effective for them to partner with without all the hassle and cost of acquiring new and additional aircraft. Isnt it just simpler and cheaper to contract with the WestJets, CanJets and EnerJets of the world?
CanJet, I believe, is running 14 birds for Transat this winter and I think Transat is happy with them so its hard to figure that they would want to "give them the boot" anytime soon.

Re: Air Transat Fleet
They have 5 belonging to them, soon 6, the rest come every winter from Europe, TUI planes from Germany, Belgium and Holland. In May they go back to Europe.
Re: Air Transat Fleet
seems between Sunwing and Canjet a fair bit of wet leasing out there...guess its just the nature of the beast...
Re: Air Transat Fleet
for Air Transat, the plan naw is to have about 14-15 330 and running a single type operation
Re: Air Transat Fleet
That certainly remains to be seen... 2016 is quite a few years away!tintin42 wrote:for Air Transat, the plan naw is to have about 14-15 330 and running a single type operation

Old news... We've been hearing that since the last big capitalization of the company...I think it was 2001.
But, who knows, maybe 2010 will be the year... With all the big mergers going on.
Oh, and don't forget... 18 million profit for 2009...in this crappy economy and H1N1 context...not bad!
Re: Air Transat Fleet
No doubt .... well you better plan on a round of concessionary contract talks!Oh, and don't forget... 18 million profit for 2009...in this crappy economy and H1N1 context...not bad!

I have to disagree with your theory of a 30 day cancel clause. Is this a fact or just your feeling? Because I highly doubt that IMP being the shrewd business that they are would bring 9 aircraft over from Europe, hire and train over 50 new permanent pilots, hire 30+ German contract pilots, and hire and train 300 FA's all based on a 30 day Get Outta Dodge clause. Not likely. If you're correct on the 30 day clause, then IMP's and KR's risk management strategies have slipped. That is typically not their style.hogster330 wrote:A321 does not have the legs we need. The Canjet contract has a 30 day cancellation clause in it just like the Westjet contract had. The 60,000 seats would equate to about 350 cancelled flights for the balance of the travel season. If you are referring to the fact that it was proposed that Canjet would do YHZ-EGLL in 2010; that plan was all tentative. I believe that it was decided (and rightly so) that the 737-8 was not a viable machine for the job and it went to another carrier using a 757. What the status of that is, I have no idea. However CJ is not planning any ETOPS for AT at this time. For now, I can assure you that AT is only looking for more lift from CJ for Mexico, Cuba, the DR and so on; not reducing it (at least not yet). Having said all this AT is the most successful sun-travel company in Canada's history. They know what is best for them too.

Although I work at Air Transat and have for a long time, I have never been privy to the details of the contracts that Transat AT make with other operators. I can tell you this though, we have been consistently told by very senior mgmnt of Air Transat that all their contracts with other airlines include a 30-day cancellation notice that can be exercised by either party.Never seen it but have heard about it with my own ears several times. The same people on the Air Transat side have said that 60000 seats have been cancelled with Canjet, cant tell you the reason. I also know our pilot group is not happy about the work that is being given to other carriers and we are actively working on this issue in our present labour negotiations. I would also include that I have worked for IMP in the past and agree that they are shrewd business people and have taken advantage of situations(especially provincial and federal gov'ts) but they dont have a step up on JM Eustache. The tour business is his playground

Re: Air Transat Fleet
There was no 30 day cxl clause in the TTC/WS contract, I doubt there is one in the contract with Canjet.
Re: Air Transat Fleet
Hammer, what is your source to say there was no 30 days cancellation clause?
I was told by Jean-Marc Eustache himself that there was.

Re: Air Transat Fleet
Heard Air Transat is runing a boeing 737 NG course for their mechanics sometime this winter. Anyone know if they plan to get some NG's themself or is this for contract maintenance for another company.
