Porter Reciprocal Jumpseat Agreement details

Porter is set to unveil its Reciprocal Jumpseat Agreement! This program will go live in a week or so, and more specific details will be available at that time. A lot of work has gone into this, and it should be a good one. Highlights include:

-This agreement will be open to Pilots AND Cabin Crew. That means that if another carrier will only allow pilots with their reciprocal agreement with Porter, that carrier’s cabin crew can still take advantage of Porter’s jumpseat, even if only Porter pilots are allowed on the other carrier. Porter staff must adhere to whatever jumpseat agreement other carriers have in place.

-The cost to travel will be FREE!

-The number of seats available will equal to the number of jumpseats on the airplane (the Q400 has 1 jumpseat). The jumpseater will sit in the cabin.

-Booking can be made up to 2 hours prior to departure, with the hotline will be open from 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.

-Priority will be given to Porter employees first, then on a first come, first serve basis for other airline flight crew (based on check-in time).

Several airlines, including Air Canada, have signed on. Send me a PM if you would like the contact information for our Jumpseat Coordinator to set up an agreement.
For Porter pilots and cabin crew, the final details will be sent to you shortly.

Hey Valhalla, Does that mean that Porter employees may soon be able to book travel with less than 48 hours notice. Just wondering if 2 hours notice for jump seat may translate to a new system.

Terminator - there are lots... I don't have a complete list, but you will get more specific details in a week or two.

Quickflight - I understand that once we go online with staff travel, which is also happening as we type, you can book immediately before the flight leaves.

Does that mean that if there are 30 open seats only one JS will be allowed? And Porter employees bump them off the flight? Here is a lost opportunity of doing it differently, maybe West Jet style.
Jumpseaters: if a Porter employee is bumping you off the flight, just offer to pay their standby fee and buy them a beer, that would free the "jumpseat".

And what about a full cabin, then the jumpseter gets bumped?

Looks like they still have to work out a few details....

Hey V1RotateV2,

Why don't we wait for the official details about the agreement to be released before you go running your mouth about its perceived short comings. Valhalla was merely giving some general info about it and how official details are coming soon. Management has been working on this for quite some time. So I'm sure they have covered most, if not all of the basics. And anything missed will probably be fixed in short order.

Not trying to stir the pot of kick up S@#t but like I said why not zip it til the final product is presented.

Hopefully you'll get to enjoy taking advantage of the jumpseat agreement when its finalized.

Cheers
MS

If you want to fly for free, you're gonna have to live by the rules of the jumpseat agreement. If you're a Porter employee, or have interline agreement with Porter, pay the nominal fee and travel Westjet style.

Yes. A fare paying passenger, or a fare paying interliner will bump a freeriding jumpseater if there are no more seats on the airplane... Unless of course, you are an actual Porter pilot, and then you can ride in the actual jumpseat. Just try not to ask for the jumpseat with such a tone of entitlement, cause that could get you bumped as well!

The reciprocating jump-seat agreement should be for pilots only not FAs. At Air Canada the FA's are in court trying to get paid the same as Air Canada FOs. They think there job is the same. This does not help that cause that much. The jump-seat is suppose to be a perk for holding a pilot license not 2-3 week FA course.

I think of pilots as managers. These companies keep trying to group pilots into the uneducated staff. Yes I know some ground people and FAs have post education but their jobs do not require it. A pilot needs a license and many years/hours experience to work for any none entry level company like Porter.

BLZD1-----You are bang on. This is a PILOT agreement. Defend our PILOT perks industry wide. We have earned it, we deserve it, we have fought for it, don't sell out to be "team" player.

That's great news V! I'm sure that the jumpset committee representative of Transat is working on it as we speak! That's great for everybody involved! The FA group getting involved is a tricky thing. As it would not be "reciprocal",cause all the other airlines involved don't accept FAs...At least those commuting FAs could get a free ride once in a while. But anyway, what it comes down to, wether it be Pilot or FA, it's up to the captain to determine who gets on!All the best to the recip. program! Nio :D

There's that entitlement thing again.

I'm not touching the AC FA court thing with a ten foot pole, but..

My wife is an FA and as she ports out of a base she is required to fly to YYC to start or end her pairing every now and then. I realize jumpseat agreements are something that's been happening for a long time with pilots but after 9/11 it really isn't a jumpseat agreement if you can't ride jumpseat. What this industry needs is a commuting agreement that allows any employee (specifically crews) from any airline to "commute" to work. As my wife and I both work for an airline, this would be a tremendous benefit to us both.

But hey, politics drive a lot of opinions so if you think pilots have a right to reciprocal jumpseats... have at 'er.

Nio would like to exclude the non-Canadian/contract Canjet Pilots if that's ok.

JJJ, again, if the contract pilots pay for their union dues(wich are quite expensive, with ALPA and ACPA).I will totally agree that they are entitled such a privilege. But this is and was, just my personal opinion., wich I express freely on this forum. But in reality, after many researches, there is no specification on any reciprocal agreement about how to check the red pass (RAIC). So basically, even if mein Bruder has no red pass, but if he proves me that he is a currently employed pilot flying for a company within that agreement... I should have the courtesy to give him a ride! So, I don't know where we stand! Some people ask to see the RAIC, me, I ask for the RAIC and licence. But there is nothing officially written, because most airline require "sufficient" identification. I hope that helps you to understand my opinion, regards, Nio :D

Air Can will ask for both. Dont get caught.

For those at AC and AT, what are the provisions with regards to Transborder Jumpseating?! Feasible??

I'm trying to set up a j/s agreement between American Airlines and Porter.

I would need the following Porter information to forward to the American flight department:
1. Name and title of the individual who can sign agreements
2. Their snail mail and email.
3. Their phone number.

I looked for an email address on the PAPA website but didn't see one. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
