Rumors of AC hiring soon, any truth?

Post by KAG »

In the general topic forum it was mentioned that with JAL going bust AC is going to step up its Asian flying and as a result do some hiring. Is there any truth to this? If so that’s great news!!! This might shape up to be an ok year moment wise after all.

I like it. A positive rumour.

Where would AC find the extra FINs to do long haul stuff? Unless the 787 orders come waaay sooner or they pick up some more leased 767s don't know how they can fill the void. If anything it will be other Star Alliance Members picking up the slack. I know United had a hard on with the idea of stealing some market from JAL. AC just announced 7 new transborder routes out of YYZ and on a selfish note, I hope the announced SAN flights will have a nice long layover in Old Town.

So I can't see hiring based on this but I am sure hope I am wrong.

If all goes well, AC should open the valves again in Fall according to a friend flying there.

Let's hope this is true.

I was told directly by someone on the MASC that the company expects to hire by late in 2010.
No numbers were given yet but he told me that things were looking positive.

FO's in Feb are pretty much all blocked at 80+ hrs and the EMJ in YYZ is at 84, so that means some guys will be pushing 90 hr months which leads me to believe hiring might happen this year or early next year, unless of course fly til you die happens and ruins everything.

It's fun to play the rumour game when the news is good. I'll throw my hat in the ring with this tidbit: 'Just did my line check before Xmas, and the checker was telling me that the buzz around the office is hiring in fall of 2010. I know it's still heresay, but it's a good source at least.

That being said, there was also a rumour floating around that mandatory retirement would be repealed in March. That one was recently put to bed by an equally credible source (fortunately - but I digress :) ). Still, I imagine that the retirement issue remains a big variable vis a vis hiring. So stay tuned, 2010 could be an interesting year.

Becks - Two years so far?? I'm humbled... 'found it hard enough waiting 2 weeks after getting the good letter. Hope your current seat is comfortable at least!

Cheers!

Yeah, it's been tough. 2 years ago to the day since my interview.

Fingers crossed that they haven't forgotten about me! :smt109

As far as my current seat:
Is it 800 hours a year flying some 705 or Jet machine? - Nope
However, I sleep in my own bed on most nights, get to go skating with my kid's class, and there's usually enough dollars left over to pad my slush fund! albeit lightly!!!!

Cheers

Yup,

Dust off the resumes if you're interested. Big Red will be looking for newbies in the fall... so we hear.

Just curious, what about recalling those that took the leaves. I know 2 that took 5 year LOA when they offered. I know that they cannot be forced to return until the 5 years is up but how many are out on that program and how will that effect hiring?

I believe the equipment bids take into account LOAs, SLOAs, GDIP, permanent management, quit/fired and retirements in their forecast for equipment needs. If they determine there is a shortage, hiring is required.

Becks: If it has been 2 years since you received your letter, make sure you get on HR as soon as hiring is confirmed as they will probably have to re-interview you as that scenario has played out in the past and the guys had to re-interview. They didn't have to do another medical or any of the cognitive testing, just an interview.

See you on the line in 2010, I hope!

It is the group of ACPA guys that work with the company on the equipment bids and sit in on the planning meetings for the crewing of the pilots needed.
They are the best positionned to know what is going on.Feel free to call the guys up and ask them, none of this is a secret and they will give you the goods straight up.

OK thanks a lot appreciate the info.

I am at Jazz right now and was wondering if anyone knows how it works for Jazz guys. Do they still interview guys in order of seniority? Or does that not even happen anymore?
Thanks

Anyone want to comment on the latest (refurbished out of house) 767's added to the fleet ? Best quote of the month from a Capt " I signed the logbook because none of the mechanics in xxx had a license". At least it keeps us grinning.
