Canadian North

Hi there
This question is for the Canadian North drivers. I've always wanted to fly for them and am wondering what their status is. I haven't seen any Dash-8 lately, have their leases been dropped? I know of the new contract into Albian so are things starting to turn around? With all the competition on the northern routes it's gotta be hard right now. Are there any ground schools planned for 2010? If you prefer keeping this info on the down low, please PM me as I'm interested in a future with CN.
Thanks
CD

Things are definitely on the up swing... the 5 year deal with Esso plus the 5 year renewal with CNRL and a few other new contracts mean we will be looking at a very busy future. There has already been a bid for new Boeing Captains and F/Os and it's anticipated that this is just the tip of the iceberg. The Dash 8s are still running and nothing has been dropped. My best guess is that we'll be hiring in late spring if not sooner.

Not quite "lots" but we did see 3 junior Dash 8 F/Os go to Westjet recently.

Actually a -8 F/O just left for Porter but none of our current Boeing F/Os have left. One who was downgraded a year ago to the Dash left for WJ quite awhile ago. The upgrade potential for the 737 F/Os is looking pretty good over the next few years.

Do they have a base in Calgary or is it easy to commute?

No Calgary base for the Dash and no flying out of Edmonton on the Dash. You deadhead and start your pairing in YZF and spend a lot of time further north. Fly about 16-18 days a month, makes for a tough commute from YYC.

Can anyone shed some light on current pay scales for both the Dash 8 and 737 fleets and if Canadian North pilots can jumpseat using the CASS system? I would like to get some insight on life as a pilot at this company as well. I would greatly appreciate any infomation from a current or former employee. Thank you in advance!

CASS system is only for US pilots on US airlines.

I'm also very interested in getting some information about Canadian North. Love flying in the north so any information from people in the know would be appreciated! I'm sure I can find info on pay and schedules. I'd like to know what the upgrade potential is for someone joining the company as a Dash FO. Are upgrades based solely on seniority number (and performance) or any other factor? How long would it take someone to be upgraded to the left seat of the dash assuming the economy doesn't tank again in the the near future.
PM me if you prefer but it seems that I'm not the only one asking.

Oops, sorry, wrong term regarding CASS. So what reciprocal jump seat agreements does CN have with other airlines?

Good luck all

Saw on Pilot Career Centre website that Canadian North is hiring 9 Dash 8 FO's for out of YEG but I don't see the job posting on the Canadian North Website.
Can anyone confirm if they are currently hiring.

18 days a month, dead head out of YEG to YZF.
