old TSB reports

Post by Beacon Final »

I searched the entire TSB website, emailed them, trying to find out how I can access copies of old accident reports. Its quite easy to access them in the US, but not that easy here. Last I heard all accident reports should be accessible to the public.

Maybe I am missing an obvious link or something....

Any thoughts?

Some years ago I wanted to dig up some old accident info regarding an accident a family member had been in. Happened during the late 70s. Anyway, I'm pretty sure the info was requested from the Library and Archives Canada http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/ -OR- Archives Canada http://www.archivescanada.ca/ I'll look around to see if I can dig it up and let you know for sure. I would start with that though.

yeah, right  , not in Canada you say?

Just two available prior to 1993. And of course, as I love to remind everyone, if it was (is) a Class 5 investigation, there won't be a public report at all.

If you know exactly what your looking for there may be a bit more help in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=54&t=61892

Wouldn't it be nice if the TSB had an accessable database for all their investigations - including Class 5's?!?

The TSB website indicates that if you're seeking accident reports more than 20 years old, you should contact Library and Archives Canada as suggested earlier:

TSB - Contact Us

One of the main reasons for that is that there have been so many different organizations over the years that have been tasked with accident investigations. The TSB itself has only existed since 1990 so reports from previous entities (like the CASB, etc.) would not necessarily be held by the TSB. I don't recall just now who might have been tasked with investigations back in the late '30s or early '40s ... in might have even been a military role at the time. Hopefully, you will have some luck at the Library and Archives site.
