That Beaver/C-185 job

Post by phillyfan »

Does anybody know who this job is with ? The ad does not give a company name and the email is just a yahoo account.

I'm from Yellowknife and the name isn't ringing a bell. Based on a few details, my speculation is that this is not a legitimate ad.

I think for job postings the moderators should do a bit of vetting before allowing an ad to be posted.

my 2 cents

Was wondering/thinking the same thing. I can't think of any operator in NWT other than Northwestern that operates both a Beaver and 185. In fact I can only think of 2 operators in NWT that operate Beavers, 3 if you count ASW's turbine amphibs.
I know of a lodge (seasonal, family-run) that had a 185...maybe they added a Beaver?

I've also been curious, I think it has to be a new addition to the fleet, like slats says there aren't many operators with both beaver and 185. I sent an email to the address last night looking for more details, haven't heard anything back yet.

YK is a small town, if someone was flying a new machine everyone would be gossiping about it and so far I haven't heard anything. Second there are lots of drivers up here already and with times that low they wouldn't have any trouble filling that spot just by word of mouth. +1 on the it's bogus. So the question is why? Let's see who would benefit from posting adds for a float flying bush job that requires coincidently "50 hours of float time." and only a hand full of hours for a Beaver spot.

Total speculation here but my guess is there are some schools that are really hard up for business this year. I wonder how many potential students will be pointed to that ad and told hey there are jobs out there sign up quick. It's one thing to go on about the up coming retirement and pilot shortage (myth in my opinion). It's a whole other to fabricate jobs that never existed in the first place. If I'm right, doing something like this has the potential to backfire as students are going to wonder why someone is so desperate. Put 2&2 together and realize that they are making jobs up because there are no real jobs out there and if there are no real jobs out there then what's the point of even getting a rating, license or whatever.

My vote is if someone isn't willing to post their real company name and contact info then the ad should not be allowed to be posted.

Any mods want to comment on ad posting policy?

Joe (avcanada ) looks after the Free Job Ads forum. He does NOT read all posts on here, so if you have a problem with any job ad posted, send him a pm with your concerns.

This is just a guess. But I heard a rumour that someone in the NWT has applied for a 703 AOC. If this ad is connected with a new start up they may not want their name public just yet. Don't worry, its not me.

I do know of a startup application out of Fort Smith. I know the guy and also know that he will be using 1 C-185 (he won't be looking for pilots)
I have received some info about the possibility of it being a guy many Yellowknifers would be familiar with. If so it might be another sketchy behind the scene lease thing like the one from a few years ago.

I didn't see Yellowknife mentioned anywhere in the add. Jumping to some pretty wild conclusions there aren't we. It's truly a rarity to find anything positive or useful on here, come on people.

If thats true, they wouldn't be the first company to have a job ad like that on here to attract students. Theres nothin' like spending 15 grand on a 50 hour bush course to get a job scooping ice cream for minimum wage and maybe getting an extra 25 hours on your time off over the duration of a summer.

Actually not much of a jump. Population is around 40,000 people in all of the NWT 25000 -30,000 are in Yellowknife.

Of course not all operators base out of Yellowknife but if you've spent any time in YK you know that it's the hub and most anything that happens in the NWT is talked / gossiped about in Gold Range, Black Knight or the Monkey Tree that night even if it happened up in Tuk at noon.

This is not an under the table charter / lease whatever agreement. Those boys fly their own machines and they have been around a long time thus they know a dozen pilots sitting in YK right now with way more time than what's been asked for.

Trust me I wish it was true. If it was I'd be interested in the Beaver gig . . . but it's not.
