IFR Renewal?
Looking for advice on renewing an IFR rating that expires July 2010.Economic issues in late 2008 and through 2009 made it very difficult to find any work at all, i'm sure i am not the only one that found this to be true.I hear many pilots that were laid off over this time are getting back to work and would like opinions on whether it is a good time to renew or are there just too many experianced pilots looking for work? I am currently at the 320 hr. mark.
Thanks for looking

Re: IFR Renewal?
you can skip the renewal as any PPC renews it withing 2 years (2012) but what do you have to offer an employer beyond a expired IFR and 320 hrs?

Re: IFR Renewal?
I dont Know where you are writting from, but I renew my multi IFR last month on the Baron Sim. There are certain schools that offer the reniew in the sim at relativly cheap cost ( around 700-800 tax included. But be carefull! If you learned the procedures in a specific plane, and not having sufficent experience in IFR, you might end up paying more then if you would renew in the acctual Aircraft. Sad so, go and do that otherwise, as the jp 7500 said, you wouldn`t have much to offer to the employer ( I mean flight experience).
good luck

Re: IFR Renewal?
So what do low time guys who have been working on the ramp for 2 years do? Just tough it out during company training & renew with a PPC after not flying for so long?
Re: IFR Renewal?
Any of those types of sims Ontario and east ? I'm in almost the exact same situation, albeit with more TT and multi/ifr time.
Re: IFR Renewal?
If your out east just go to cornwall thinks it 1000 but its in the plane and the run it well, your in and out in no time.
If your in BC go out to Boundry Bay and do the sim about 800 bux and a couple days.
If your at 340 and no flying in 2 yrs renew your IFR, that way you get in the swing again and dont come off as a donkey plumber during your training. If you get the job you dont want to lose it two days later because your rusty

Thanks to all that responded, i appreciate all your opinions. Haven't made a decision on what i'll do yet but i'm sure it will be easier to decide based on what i've heard from you guys.
Thanks again

to quote the friendly giant "look up, look way up" to the banner above. I believe they have a 599 ifr renewal, and have a number of jazz guys doing the training so you get to network as well.

Re: IFR Renewal?
If your in the Montreal area, we have a Mechtronic sim for rent. It can either simulate the King air B200 or Baron. Took me two sims + test for my renewal. Aprox 400$
Re: IFR Renewal?
+1 In my ground school the majority of guys had expired IFR's and the company renewed it with a PPC.aviator2010 wrote:you can skip the renewal as any PPC renews it withing 2 years (2012) but what do you have to offer an employer beyond a expired IFR and 320 hrs?
