Does anyone know how Mount Royal is doing these days? Last i heard they were not hiring any Class 4 instructors? Sounds like some experienced guys have left recently, hope they have the guys to finish the 2nd years.

Check the job board.

Looks like they are open to taking Class IVs for the summer program.

It's a little bit of a long read but well worth it if you are considering working/attending

Mount Royal is busy. I know this because I am a second year, who finised early. Anyways, they usually put through a few students through the instructor rating, but no one in my class showed interest in doing the rating through MRU.

The school is looking for Class 4's, 3 or 2. They are starting the PPL program, so depending on your class thats most likely what the summer is looking like for you.

A bunch of the first years are doing their CPL flight test now, and the second years are finishing up their MIFR ratings.
We had tigther deadlines this year so, most of all the studetns had to be done their respective year requiremtns by April 30th.

One of their instructors left to do water bombing in MB.

Mount Royal is busy...but make sure you LOVE LOVE SOPs and piles of paperwork. Shirt and tie too. NO EXCEPTIONS or the boss will straighten your lax attitude right up. haha...I know he did to me.

Thanx for the info Pilot_King!

I noticed that in the add they say apply by e-mail, or the website, etc...does anyone know if they frown on someone showing up in person to drop of a resume?

From what I could tell about a year ago the CFI doesn't mind people showing up in person at all, but the job hiring process is done through not just himself but the College administration now as well. They tell you to apply through e-mail/online for that reason, but it definitely wouldn't hurt to show up and meet him.

I would probably not listen to everything Pilot King said. He didn't finish early, there were people interested in doing an instructor rating, just not enough. And the instructor that left went to SK, not MB, and he's coming back for the fall.

I just noticed the new Mount Royal job posting for Class 1 and 2 instructors. It mentions that they need a Group 1 Instrument Rating. As far as I know, the CFI there doesn't have his Group 1... is this still the case? If true, wouldn't it make sense for the CFI to hold a rating at a flight school doing Multi IFR training? Does anyone know if there is a stipulation in the CARs about a CFI having to be able to teach all licenses and ratings on a flight school's Operating Certificate? I have searched, but I couldn't find anything specific... maybe someone more resourceful could find out.

I was thinking about attending Mt Royal in September, but knowing this makes me think I will go a different route.

Cheers

No there is not. The most common example of this - and often used when one goes through the interview to be a CFI - is how a Class 1 instructor may be under the supervision of a Class 2 instructor CFI, despite the fact that the Class 2 isn't qualified to teach instructor ratings but the Class 1 is. Who is approved to be the CFI of a school is realistically completely up to TC though, so if they felt that indeed the CFI of such a school should have a current IFR rating then they could enforce that.
