Sim hours for instrument

Hello everyone!
I know that about 10 hours of the 20 instrument hours for the CPL can be logged in an approved training device.
But is it necessary to log it with an instructor? Or can I simply do those 10 hours by myself and log the hours?
In my logbook I haven't entered the instructor's name.

Something tells me you might need a instructor!

You are correct. That something would be the CARs.
Yes, you need an instructor.

Thanks everyone. Also a quick question again. The CARs don't state clearly, they say i need 20 hours of instrument for my commercial. Are those 20 hours after the private pilot license? Or 20 hours total since the beginning?

CARS 421.30
(ii) following the issuance of a private pilot licence — aeroplane by Canada or another contracting state, have completed 65 hours of commercial pilot flight training in aeroplanes consisting of a minimum of:
(amended 2006/12/14; previous version)
(A) 35 hours dual instruction flight time, under the direction and supervision of the holder of a Flight Instructor Rating — Aeroplane, including:
(amended 2006/12/14; previous version)
(I) 5 hours night, including a minimum of 2 hours of cross-country flight time;
(amended 2006/12/14; previous version)
(II) 5 hours cross-country, which may include the cross-country experience stated in subclause (I); and
(amended 2006/12/14; previous version)
(III) 20 hours of instrument flight time in addition to the experience stated in subclauses (I) and (II). A maximum 10 hours of the 20 hours may be conducted on an approved aeroplane simulator or synthetic flight training device.

The 20 hours of instrument time for the commercial does not include the 5 required for the private. So when you finish your Commercial license, you should have at least 25 instrument time.
