Just wondering if anyone can illuminate on what "auto-over" is?
WJA 502, a WestJet B737-700, was overshot by the Tower controller when on approach to Runway 34 at Calgary due to JZA 434 in position on Runway 34 and GLR 7246 landing on Runway 28 in front. Weather was below auto-over limits; 36015G20kts 8SM BKN016 OVC040.
Cheers!

Re: CADOR question
Auto-over has nothing to do with this incident. The airport belongs to the tower controller. It's his/her job to ensure the runway is clear before issuing a landing or take off clx and if it isnt, to tell the a/c on final to overshoot. Auto overs are when the aircraft automatically becomes tower control at a predetermined point and thus the tower is able to do what they want with the arrival. Tower control means the separation required is much less than the required IFR and is very beneficial when used between arrivals and departures. Just because weather was below that required for auto overs doesn't mean the a/c can't be towers control. All they have to do is see the a/c and ask for control.canadapilot924 wrote:Just wondering if anyone can illuminate on what "auto-over" is?

Edited because I failed to read and grasp the OP's intent.

Re: CADOR question
I actually think he just wanted to know what "auto over" meant.
