So yesterday I got accepted to Waterloo's Geography and Aviation Program. I also got accepted to Western's Social Science Program at Huron. If I go there I intend to major in Economics. I'm considering Dalhousie for the same thing. I'm waiting on Western's CAM program but I don't think I'll get in, seeing as my average is 78.


Do you think it would be better to:

1. Go into the Waterloo program and get my CPL through there
2. Go to Dalhousie and get my ratings in Halifax. Is it cheaper to fly out east?
3. Go to Western and pick up my ratings separate from the CAM program. Maybe there's a cheaper school than DFC. As much as I'd like to fly new Katana's, $200 an hour is alot.
4. If I decide to pursue a non-flight program, should I pick up my ratings in Toronto in the summer?
5. My mum lives in the Detroit area. I could also get my ratings there during the summer.

I wanted to leave the option of grad school open so I didn't apply to flight college.

This is impossible for us to answer since you, and only you, can decide what is best for yourself. They are all pretty much the same options, and all paths will eventually lead to the same destination.

If you want to go to University, make sure you study something that interests you. Dalhouise, UWO, UW, are all good schools. I'm not sure if one program is cheaper than the other. Study something that you really enjoy and can see yourself doing in case the whole flying thing doesnt work out.

But what about the training conditions? Would it be better to fly in Halifax, Toronto, or Waterloo? Anyone know of good schools in London other than DFC? How about weather? Will the East Coast weather get in the way of my flying?

There are no schools in the Halifax region, I do believe the closest is in Greenwood, or you can try Debert. YHZ isnt exactly general aviation friendly unless your sporting a navajo or bigger, as far as FBO's go anyway. If you dont mind driving 2 or 3 hours for your flying, I spent many a night at Dalhousie, it be a good time.

Don't waste your time with one of these Bachelor of Aviation and Useless Subject. If you really want a degree, get one as a decent back up, like engineering and do your licences on the side. If you just want to fly, go to college.
