Medevac Flying

Hey Guys, I am sitting around 800TT, multi ifr, I have been working as a instructor/charter pilot for the last 2 years, I am very much wanting to get into Medevac flying and make a career of it, it seems I have spoken to just about every company that has medevac operations in the country and have had no luck, Just wondering what I can do to make myself more attractive to those companies, to be able to get my foot in the door and prove myself in a medevac operation? Any words of advice or tips on who to talk to would be much appreciated, either here or via PM.

LOL 50' - unfortunately, with 800 TT, it's probably more of a "what province/territory are you WILLING to reside in?".

Alberta Healths Mins are 500TT for Co-pilots. Try all of the operators, most jobs are not always advertised. So its all about timing

Try Alberta Central...Both in Lac La Biche and Grande Prairie. They are not hiring right now but when the they are they will take people with 500-1000 hours and are one of the best operators out there. There are a few other good operations in Alberta too.

The problem will be getting your ATPL while flying medevacs if you start with low time. It will take a long time unless you fly for one of the few companies that are flying 800+ hours per year and the ones I know of pay crap wages.

It might be better to get a bit more PIC time and then move to medevacs. Either way, it's pretty good flying. Nights can be tough sometimes but for the most part it's great.

Try Borek for a northern rotation.. 4 weeks in 2 weeks out. Must live in YYC or YEG on your time out. King air 100/200. Bases in Inuvik and Iqaluit. Pay is average. YMMV!

There are none in AB that fly 800 hours per year as far as I know. I was talking more about the companies in BC that fly more and pay less.

Plus, as far as I know, they demand you live around YEG or YYC on your days off. Hmm, 2 weeks off less 2 days for travel less whatever they scrape up at the last second when you're home. Not a whole lot left.

Bingo. Copilots were told it would help increase their yearly earnings and flight times. All it did was reduce number of crews and travel costs for the company.

Otters are still 3 and 3.. for the most part.
