beech 99 ON BELLY IN YWG
Any info on the 99 on it's belly today in YWG on 18/36????
The left main gear collapsed. They did a couple low and overs then attempted to land on 36.
Not sure who's it was, but rumor around work was that it was Courtesy Air's..... I cannot confirm that though.
Didn't look like Keystones colors though.....
Looked like it was sitting on its belly pod and the left main gear a bit. Didn't look like the wing tip was on the ground from the angle I had.

You are joking right!!??
Please tell me you are joking!!
Who in their right mind wouls start heaving on the gear to try and "lock" it.
Anyone hear of the engineer at Ministic that got crushed??
if you ever have a gear problem, I'd say have the engineers ready to slip the jacks in as soon as you touch down, go easy on reverse and in a Beech braking could only help "pull the gear backwards".
Otherwise totally bad news all round. I hope the pod took the crunch not the props.
My 2 cents...

I heard that it was Courtesy's machine.
They had 3 green but had a light in the gear hangle.....
They landed safe, but when they pulled reverse the left main collapsed.
It looked like it was sitting on the pod, if there was any damage to the plane it would have been the wing tip and mayby the left prop. Didn't look like much though.

Courtesy has never had any incident or accident in the past 3 years, other than frozen brakes, or a disobedient engine that was reluctant to start. The 3-year time frame is when the present owners purchased it from the O'Brien estate following the death of Karen O'Brien. I am not familiar with its history before that.
The co-pilot (who is actually a Captain on the airplane) had not heard of the Ministic incident until after this incident, and standing well out of the way of the plane, pulled the nosegear forward to prevent its collapse as any pilot would probably have done.
The transient reduction in the hydraulic pressure unloaded the downlock on the left main, and it gave way. Neither crew was aware of this possibility at the time.

Im sorry but there is no way in hell am I getting anywhere the underside of my AC if I suspect gear problems, nor can I name anyone who would. You have a gear problem, leave the damn plane where it is and call MTCE. Don't try to be a hero, your going to get squashed.

----------------------------------------Occurrence 1----------------------------------------
Occurrence No. : A05C0048 Occurrence Type: ACCIDENT
Class : BEING ASSESSED Reportable Type:
Date : 19-03-2005 Time : 08:46 CDT
Region of Responsibility : CENTRAL
Location : CYWG WINNIPEG INTL, MANITOBA
Aircraft Information:
Registration : C-FJMF Operator : COURTESY AIR
Manufacturer : BEECH Operator Type: COMMERCIAL
Model : B99 CARs Info: 704 - COMMUTER
Injuries: Fatal : 0 Serious : 0 Minor : 0 None : 2 Unknown : 0
Occurrence Summary :
A05C0048: The Courtest Air Beech 99 C, registration C-FJMF (serial # U-180) operating as MC505 was en route from Winnipeg to Portage la Prairie. The crew initially selected flaps 30% for the approach and then selected the landing gear down. The landing gear was reportedly slow to extend, however a 3-green gear down indication was eventually displayed. When the flaps were selected to 100% prior to landing, the gear unsafe aural warning sounded and the crew executed a missed approach. On the overshoot the gear was selected up, the 3 green indication remained and the landing gear unsafe light was illuminated. The crew chose to divert to Winnipeg where maintenance was available. While en route back to Winnipeg, the crew accomplished the relevant abnormal checklist (Landing with Landing Gear Unsafe), and declared an emergency. At no time did the 3 green indication extinguish. On arrival in Winnipeg after gear extension, the crew requested a fly-by, where ground personnel advised that the gear appeared to be down. The landing was accomplished successfully, however the aircraft was stopped on runway 36, in order to accomplish a visual inspection. At this time a crew member noticed that the nose gear was not fully extended, and attempted to move the gear into the locked position by pushing on it. The nose gear did move; however, the left main gear collapsed. Runway 36 was closed for about 5 hours while the aircraft was removed. The company and TSB investigators are assesing the malfunction.

It happened at Ministic, and it happened at Transwest (on a 1900), both times by ENGINEERS who you would think would know better. Bottom line is that in the heat of the moment, sometimes pilots do what they think is right, even though in retrospect it probably wasn't the best idea. Shit happens. The guy who did it probably feels pretty foolish right now, let alone to be picked apart on avcanada like he's the village idiot.King Air Guy wrote:Im sorry but there is no way in hell am I getting anywhere the underside of my AC if I suspect gear problems, nor can I name anyone who would. Bottom line... no one is perfect. Instead of sitting here trashing someone, why not take a few minutes out of your day to talk to your fellow pilots/crewmembers (in real life) to make sure that they know what to do in the same situation, so that it doesn't happen again to someone else.

I'm not slamming anyone, believe me, when it comes to planes and landing gear, Im not one to judge. At the same time I would not poke my head under to inspect a malfuncationing gear. I am glad noone was hurt, and there was minimal damage to the AC.
Shit happens.
