Good luck with your training. Canada is a great place to fly!

to get a atpl
Just a minor correction ... no flight school in Canada has an ATPL program.
Flight schools can take you through PPL/COMM and then usually either MIFR or class 4 instructor rating. Maybe both if you've got the coin. However, at that point the pilot typically has around 250 hours.
But 1500 hours is required for the issuance of an ATPL. No flight school in Canada has a program to take you from 250 hours to 1500 hours. Maybe informally, if you worked as an instructor, but that would be your choice. Not many people go from zero to 1500 hours at the same FTU - but if you look around, you might find one. Frankly, that would not be the best choice. Far better for a pilot to get some more varied experience, than going around the circuit for the same runway for 1500 hours.

Come on now Hedley, how about all of those 150 mile cross countries in perfect weather, will that not teach me anything about real flying? I taught my student how to do a nav log.
I really think it's a joke that instructors (0 airline) experience can get their (airline)transport pilot's license, while some poor B1900 driver who got hired on a tier basis has to fly for 3000 hours. I think instruction is good for a little bit depending on how you make of it. Some just do it as a job to get the flight time and move on, while for others it's a job and a temporary career. I don't see myself leaving instruction at any point in my life as I enjoy the aspect of teaching. Sure, I am looking to move on, but I always want to keep instruction as part of my career. I know a few guys who do it, and they are perhaps the best instructors that I know. Very smart, humble, and laid back = automatic respect.

I'm going to with that it's cheaper here than there. Same reason some European's come over as well.

As far as I know, Chinese airspace is military controlled which make training difficult. Since there is close to zero GA in Asia, it's very difficult to find training at a decent price. We already have plenty of space and enough flight schools so why not. I have heard about some flight school in Mongolia but most instructors didn't like how the joint was operated (took their passport and/or with hold money).

Im definetly not argiung them coming here, gives pilots here in Canada work, I was just curious as to why. So they get a Canadian licence out of it? or do they just learn how to fly then go back home to get certified or something?

But its even cheaper in the States...
Is the standard of training here worth the price difference? Or at least is that the mentality?

I think what is meant is the Frozen ATPL.

the Frozen ATPL
We don't have one of those in Canada, either.
We have the IATRA (written exam) and the abortion known as the "integrated" commercial licence - where the lucky graduate has less flight time in his logbook than with a normal commercial licence - but there is no regulatory concept of "frozen ATPL" in Canada.
Either you meet the ATPL requirements, or you don't.

You are correct. Mea culpa.
I keep hoping those no-experience licence abortions will go away, but no luck so far.
People want more of this, apparently:

I think the primary reason is because Canadian licenses are one of the most highly recognized licenses accross the world next to the European licenses, which are so expensive to obtain. A Canadian license is far easier to convert than an American license.

I would guess the reason for doing a Canadian CPL over a FAA CPL is all of the extra "hoops" you have to jump through. The TSA approval can take awhile sometimes.

It's very possible that they will just write the Chinese exam instead of the Canadian one and issued a Chinese license. CX trains cadet in Aussieland but all cadet write Hong Kong exams and issued Hong Kong license with tho hours are racked up on Aussie planes.

They get their Canadian CPL w/ MIFR and I think there is a requirement for 20 hrs turbine. In china they only need that to convert to Chinese ATPL.
I know MFC gets their students done fast.
One word of advise, it will be your English skills that will hold you back if they are not top notch.
Good Luck with it all...

Safer than many countries like the Philippines where they hire them out of school, teach em how to fly, and put em in the right seat of an airliner. They won't hire expats, it's a protected profession as they say they have enough local qualified, e.g.: have learned how to both read and write. Other countries like that too.....So, I guess it works. ( If they spend enough time in the right seat. ) Trouble is the Chief Instructor for Philippine Airlines was hired that way, and hasn't really flown anything. ( Poor Safety Record - go figure. )
Mostly, like in China, the Captains are Australian with local FOs. Now that makes sense if they are on the same pay scale, unlike Cathay who had a problem with one pay for expats and another for locals.
One other thing, Philippine Airlines ( and the Chinese Family who own it ) are starting to pay the price. Rumor has it that a number of domestic flights were cancelled last week because of not enough Pilots. Reason was some with Airbus endorsement jumped ship and went to Saudi. Apparently Airline Pilots in the Philippines make slightly more than $20K per year. So, with free flight training up to an including the Airbus Endorsement, why would they not take a job paying over 100K a year ( tax free ) for doing the same thing.
Poetic justice at work again.
