Aerobatic Training around Calgary

Post by hollywooodabca »

Does anyone know where I can find aerobatic training around the Calgary area. (Aircraft and instructions) I currently fly out of Springbank Airport. Or anyone willing to go on an aerobatic flight (will cover costs etc.)

Thanks

Yup, go to Bassano and fly with Jim Hrymack, he has a Citabria and a Harvard. That is the only game in town right now.

I used to take people for rides in the syndicate SuperDecathlon at YBW but I had to sell my share recently.
Your best bet if you are serious about aerobatics is to buy a share in TZT but there is a waiting list right now. I can take you for a demo ride in it but only if you are interested in buying in.
The best way to get more info on aerobatics is to go to YRM and volunteer to help at the aerobatic competition on August 28th.

Excellent advice. You will meet lots of aerobatic pilots and their planes, and learn a lot from talking to them.

Just don't do any surface-level acro if the wx isn't good enough for a contest, ok?

Its about a two and a half hour drive up there from Calgary, or about an hour as the crow (or cessna) flies. Oddly enough, the town of Rocky Mountain House is fairly supportive of their aerodrome and the aerobatics that go on there. I would speculate partly because the airport is a nice distance from any residental area, a nice comfortable distance. Regardless its refreshing to see some support for aviation out there.

While on that topic, not sure if they engage in any training but are good to talk to:
