What to do when bored in Resolute Bay...

Post by Donald »

Detail InformationUser Name: Ridley, Rod

Date: 2010-09-01

Further Action Required: No

O.P.I.: System Safety

Narrative: After departure from Runway 17 at Resolute Bay, the Kenn Borek DHC-6 was observed making an abrupt turn to the west and flew under a crane located about 1/2 mile from the runway. When asked about the manoeuvre the crew said it was to avoid birds. Neither the CARS O/C or the airport maintainer saw any birds.

Maybe they were trying to impress some of the sexy women in town. Some of them start to look good after a few weeks and a bit of whisky.

thats awsome. Resolute Bay does suck if your just there to earn a living. I feel bad for all those unsuspecting east coasters who come up to work for Mr. A.

I talked to one guy who was a fueler in Res, he started at $9/hr. pretty sweet.

Well the cat's out of the bag now guys!

Hopefully, as soon as you were queried by the radio operator, you knew this and contacted your Chief Pilot at the first opportunity so that he heard the news from you. In any case, you WILL hear more about this and you WILL be explaining it to him. Do yourself a favour and don't try the "I was avoiding birds" story on him. Man up and lay it on the table for him to slap! He'll respect you for not trying to blow smoke up his ass and it may save your job. Lie to him and you'd better get your resumes out on the street before you have to add the fact that you were convicted of violating the CARS.

I still don't know what CAR he violated, besides, he should be praised as the aircraft struck neither bird nor crane

How many of you, when scanning NOTAMs, immediately skip over it as soon as you see the word 'crane'?

Here she is actually "CYRB AMEND PUB: NEW CRANE 744308N 945918W (APRX 0.3 NM NNW AD)
120 FT AGL 317 MSL LGTD NOT PAINTED"

Must be for one of SRI's projects. Either that or Aussie is somehow involved with it, I'm sure.

Hahahaah... who is that guy anyways? His name was associated with a CADORS on me a few years back and it was inaccurate. I called him on it and he changed it.
