On the side flying

Post by busdrvr320 »

Can anyone tell me, if you can do on the side flying, while working at Westjet? I fly a jump plane every so often in exchange for free jumps. Would I still be able to, or is extra flying not allowed?

I can't speak for Wj, as I don't work there, but I'd have a close read of your life insurance policy, as that may well be the deciding factor for you. Airline flying is safe from an insurance point of view, whereas I doubt that meat bombing is.

CSPA insures you while you jump WCB insures you while you fly. If you wait for an insurance company to tell you it's safe to go out you'll be locked in your basment with mattresses hiltied to the walls for awhile.

as for WS policy not sure

That would have to be taken up with our CP, but yes we do have pilots doing work on the side or during sumer vacation flying floats.

Can't say for WJ either, however where I work all we need is the DFO's OK to do recreational flying only. I have a buddy with a cargo carrier who flies jumpers on weekends and it's OK with his company. Looks like it all depends on who is in the driver's seat in the flight ops department or CP at WJ.
