Logging Amphib Time
I have been flying an amphib Beaver for the past month and a half or so and have a question about logging the time. My Log book has space for float time, it has a space for wheel time, but what I do not have a space for is when I takeoff on water and land on wheels, or vice versa.
Do I need a new logbook with more add in spaces? How have you logged amphib time? Can I log any float time even if I take off and land on wheels as they are hanging there the entire time too?
Thanks

Re: Logging Amphib Time
I only log amphib time as as "float" time if either the landing or takeoff was from water, or in other words at some point in the flight the aircraft was "floating"
. As for amphib totals I just put two totals at the bottom of every log book page in the float column. The top was page total for float plane flights and the second in brackets was page total for only the amphib types. It is worth keeping track of amphib tiem because this is a big deal for the insurance company
Re: Logging Amphib Time
My logbook has a blank column so I titled it "Amphib" and log it separately from other float time.
Drinking lots of coffee lately, at a nice safe jungle desk, wishing I were flying......

Re: Logging Amphib Time
That's a good idea. I use that blank spot for ski time. I used to just log all my amphib time in the float column with a little dot beside the amphib, so I could add it up separately if I needed to for insurance purposes. I never worried about the fact that I was taking off/landing from water or land every time. There were very few trips from land to land, and since my column says "seaplanes" I never really thought about it. I guess that's not entirely accurate, but I have enough seaplane time that the odd time I landed on pavement instead of water won't make a difference, unless someday I try to do it without the wheels!
If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself
Re: Logging Amphib Time
I've logged it separately because, as BPF says, Insurance companies will want to know about it. I don't have much, but I think a separate column if you have the space. I don't differentiate land-land or sea-land trips.

Re: Logging Amphib Time
Would it not be of more value to log amphib landings?
Rule books are paper - they will not cushion a sudden meeting of stone and metal.
