TU-154B triple engine failure, slams runway, breaks apart .
A Dagestan Airlines TU-154B suffered dual engine failure on departure from Moscow's Domodedovo Airport and was attempting an emergency landing when they lost the third engine.
Early reports say the aircraft hit the runway hard, and 'broke apart' killing at least two of the 168 on board.

What is up with these multiple engine failures in these russian airliners recently? Dont want to speculate but man is that worrying.

Apparently the airline recently changed names to South East Airlines.
Aircraft involved was a TU-154M RA-85744

That plane was built like a brick sh*t house. Only 2 dead??? I used to fly them a lot...

I might be stating the obvious, but looks as though lack of post crash fire - uumm - and 3 engine failures - looks as though they may have suffered from fuel starvation?

Wayyyy too early to speculate, but lack of fire and 3 dead engines usually points to what you have suggested.Mad Flying Ace wrote:I might be stating the obvious, but looks as though lack of post crash fire - uumm - and 3 engine failures - looks as though they may have suffered from fuel starvation?

My condolences to the 2 that were lost, and a tip of the hat to the crew that managed to dead stick it home! 2 lives lost but MANY lives saved. I think the crew deserves a kudos for the job they did, regardless of the fuel starvation issue. Sully was called a hero for dead sticking an Airbus... I would have to imagine this aircraft is equally as challenging to pull off this "trick". Well done if you ask me!

How the hell do you crash an airliner with empty tanks on departure?

Im not sure on an airliner, but I did it on a DHC2! So anything IS possible. Oh and as an FYI... up until 30 secs after my departure, I would have staked my life on the fact that I had full fronts, half centre and empty rears, so go figure.albertdesalvo wrote:How the hell do you crash an airliner with empty tanks on departure?

Gotta admit .... them "Rooskies" could sure do a great job of copying our decadent western technology. That is one very pretty copy of the 727.

Maybe. But a flock of birds, or volcanic ash, or bad fuel could do the same thing.3 engine failures - looks as though they may have suffered from fuel starvation?

Wow, talk about coming in hot...Can someone tell me what airspeed they would require in a TU154 to maintain a glide? Is 180 kts close? It almost looks in the 1st frame like the left wing tip hit the runway? Either way, the crew did an amazing job all things considered. It could have been MUCH worse.
