Snow In Ontario - First Time in 18 Years!

Post by Hedley »

http://www.nationalpost.com/news/canada ... story.html
A nasty weather system blew into southern Ontario on Wednesday morning, bringing the province its first official blizzard warning in 18 years before heading east
I can only presume that the entire Canadian military is once again standing by with shovels and chocolate-covered coffee beans, for the limp-wristed metro-sexual inhibitants of the completely mis-named "Greater Toronto Area", whom are unable to get to Starbucks this morning? Oh, the horror! The humanity!

It was pretty crazy in Barrie this morning. I can only assume that someone here angered the gods as there was sideways snow, thunder, and lighting.

Just to be safe I sacrificed a lamb extra early.

I read that The only reason for the blizzard warning was because in 2010 the criteria for issuing a warning was changed and the temp/windchill factor previously required, was removed.

100% correct, this, by all pre 2010 definitions, is not a blizzard.

But, the terms Snomagedden, Snopocalypse, Snotastrophe, Snolamity, Snolocaust? They still apply.

That's a blatantly false statement!

All 3 Starbucks on my 10 minute walk to work this morning were open!

Got up. Took the kids to daycare in the Yaris. Had no problems despite the roads not being plowed. Blew out the driveway this afternoon.

This was a big storm? 20 cm of light powder is not a major storm.

Nah they decided yesterday that it was minimum manning at the base. It wasn't much of a snowstorm for all the hoopla. Is it normal for this much hype in Ontario for the sake of 12" of snow?

Yes. Toronto is the drama queen of Canadian cities.
12" of snow?
(snort) in eastern ontario, I'm not even sure we got 6 inches.
A few minutes with the plow truck and it was cleaned up.

Bah this was nothing!!! A fart quickly carried away in the wind. I remember waking up in the morning and wondering where the hell the car went... It was bearied, the only thing I could see was the antenna sticking out of the snow. Not uncommon where I grew up.

How could there be 2 feet of snow in Chicago? I've been checking the GFA for days, and there has been no weather at all in the U.S..

Well, here in the Hammer, we got about 2 ft not much but due to Amalgamation, our snow services in what use to be Dundas Ontario sucks now.
No plows came thru until early evening , every store and mall was closed . They shutdown the whole freakin Town.

I don't know ( shaking my head) as a kid we had these storms all the time , still went to school bus or not.
People are way to pampered now. The world is becoming weak and can't.......

OH f#@K it I am starting to sound like my Dad
