entitlement perhaps?!!
the hours mean frick all. I counts for some but with a lot of resumes I would rather get one with a good attitude and a little experience. There are lots out there.

For most jobs, the hours get you the interview. Once you have the interview it's the interview that gets you the job. Big deal if a guy with 5000hrs gets PFO'd; maybe he had a bad attitude. Keep in mind there are more than a few guys around with high time and there's a good reason their career has stagnated.

This may be true in some circumstances however it seems that at Jazz the low timers are getting in this time around. People who have 2500 or less with mostly SIC time and had interviews that they thought didn't go so well are getting to the next stage. Just because someone has 5000 hours, it doesn't mean that their career has stangnated; there are dozens of reasons people want to take the next step into an airline gig.Bede wrote:For most jobs, the hours get you the interview. Stockholm,
I totally agree. I never implied that someone with 5000 hrs has a career that has stagnated. I just didn't like the tone of the OP. A 5000hr pilot is getting PFO'd for the same reason a 2000hr pilot would get PFO'd. When I interviewed at Jazz years ago, I though I failed the sim session for losing 150' on the steep turn (I though they tested to flight test standards). Lo and behold, I got a call 2 days later for a GS.
On another note, most airlines don't give additional points after a certain number of hours, lets say around 3000, so a 5000hr doesn't stand out from a 3000hr guy. However, most airlines give points for things such as EFIS time (why I don't know), 705 time (working with FA's, dispatch, etc), etc.

Re: Who's getting HIRED and who's getting PFOd?
The best airlines let pilots make the hiring decision. The litmus test is simple - would I want to fly with this person? This encompasses not only the candidates background and experience but also their personality and character. First impressions are seldom wrong. In some cases a candidate is not a good fit but does not see that themselves. It is not necessarily a rebuke of the applicant just a practical assessment of the match between the candidates expectations and the actual reality of the job posting. It is currently faster to get to the left seat at AC than at Jazz. Is 10 years as an FO a situation that the applicant is aware of and comfortable with? The reality is that Jazz has for quite some time been a pilot puppy mill in terms of new-hires as Jazz simply provides additional operational and technical experience that is used to enhance an application to WJ, Transat, Emirates, Cathay, and others. Bottom line - the biggest mistake in pilot hiring is making it an HR decision. HR doesn't have to spend 12 hours in the world's smallest office with the person.
Re: Who's getting HIRED and who's getting PFOd?
Thing is rudder, at Jazz our sim eval is done by Pilots for the specific reason of, Will I want to shoot this guy after 4 days with them.
As already stated, and I myself thought that the sim eval was pooched and I was done. I to was called couple days later and offered the position. Once I started here, I asked one of the instructors what they were looking for? I explained my situation on how I thought I screwed up, All he said was, are you a likable guy and would you be easily trainable(easy to get you outta bad habits). If they don't like your attitude than you won't get on. The 3 instructors do the eval, send you on your way, they call HR and say yes or no, at which point you'll get your PFO, or your offer.

You hit the nail on the head as always, Rudder. Now, when is that bid award coming out?

Exactly what I was told by several senior training captains.

Re: Who's getting HIRED and who's getting PFOd?
TAWS - I have 3000 mpic
SII - not always the case, lots of people have SE PIC, I Know one such person who just started at AT - great guy/pilot and a few others at AC. MPIC is defiantly worth it's weight in gold though. If you ask the guy with 3000 hrs of it

I guess, I wasn't thinking of the JAZZ cadets or similar programs.
I just built my time a different way.

Re: Who's getting HIRED and who's getting PFOd?
Not necessarily. For example there may be some pilots hired directly from flight school to Jazz. Saying from right seat to left seat currently at Jazz is about 11 years, a candidate coming from Jazz may have up to 10 000 hrs TT without any PIC except from flight school. Obviously this doesn't mean that they are a bad pilot in any way, and may be the exact opposite.SII wrote:if a guy has 5000 without a 1000pic that should sound alarm bells
This scenario doesn't really affect Jazz though because these are already hired pilot, but if they were to switch airlines to say Air Canada then this could possibly be the case. This is unlikely though because a Jazz pilot with 11 years at the airline and who is about to move up to left seat, making almost six figure paycheck probably won't make the decision to switch and start back again a the bottom.
I'm glad I'm not judgmental like all you smug, superficial idiots

Just curious to know if Jazz has hired any PC12 drivers in the past?

Re: Who's getting HIRED and who's getting PFOd?
just curious, at what stage do people usually get the PFO?
is it comon to get PFO'd after youve gone so far as to do the medical or reference checks?
or are most people getting PFO'd after the sim or interview?

Hi, I did the sim evaluation on April 30th and haven't received a call yet and no email.. I'm starting to think that I got PFO'd. Someone here waited that long?
Thanks!
Thanks!
