The best news with this bid is that we are now well into the 2006 class's for upgrades. So anyone that believes you have to have 10 years to make left seat. This bid changed that big time.

It is great news to see '06 CPT's. However, keep in mind there are a lot of senior F/O's that chose to maintain lifestyle over status. A good news bid all around!!

It is no different than at AC. Deferred upgrades open opportunities for less senior pilots.

The status pay system also has opened access to seats that would otherwise be filled in an equipment pay system. There are new-hire vacancies on the Q400 and pilots with just a few years in are on the 757.

This bid is good news, but countryhick, keep in mind that, yes, guys from 2006 have been upgraded, but the largest amount of hiring took place after 2006 which means for example, if you were hired in 2008, there are still 450 f/o's ahead of you.

Yup, still 10 more years!

If a DH8 YYZ base is offered to the new hires will they get it before those who bid it on this last bid and show effective dates for May/June/July?

All current pilots had the chance to bid for what they wanted so therefore after the bid if there are 27 D8 YYZ FO vacancies then that will be open to new hires.

The first post shows what spots are available to new hires after the bid results were released.

So those FO's who were looking for YYZ and bid it on this last bid, got it, but show effective dates for MAY/JUNE/JULY will have to wait for the effective date to move back. The new hires will be offered YYZ DH8 spots this week and get to be based there immediately correct?

Keep in mind before you move froma base someone has to be able to take your place.

Not to hijack this thread, however, here is a clear example of the benefits of status pay.

New hires won't get to choose from all those positions. The company will decide what position they need filled first and offer those to current classes.

Good stuff folks! Recent newhires probably wont be spending much, or any, time on reserve depending on where they go.

Guys just wondering how many ppl you would need below you in YYC and YVR. I would imagine that YYC there is enough openings that wouldnt spend much time on RES but what about YVR.

There is no freeze on the 400 if you were on the 100/300 since it's not an initial type rating. From the CRJ to the 400 there is. As for 400 to 100/300 my guess would be no freeze since again it is not another initial rating however things my be different with new hires. I'm not sure.

New hires are frozen on type for 2 years. If a new hire bids on a Q400 vacancy and subsequently bids to the "classic" in the next bid, or say a year later, there is no hinderance. As previously stated, they are a common type and no initial course would be required to go to the classic.

I suspect that the first couple of ground school's will be focused on filling the vacancies out west (DH8). YYZ is already covering a lot of "western flying". Perhaps April and May ground schools will offer up YYZ postions.

Here's a scenario. Lets say for those in GS right now...they are only allowed to choose from YVR or YYC Dash 8.

Three months down the road...the next new hire class is offered YYZ/YUL Dash 8. Would those who were in the previous class be able to bid back out east due sen #???

Just Curious how that works

Cheers,

I believe they run a mini bid before each new class.... so yes you should be able to bid back to yyz before it is offered to new hires. It is in the company's best interest to have people where they want to be for the most part I would think.

You can also trade bases with another pilot.
