Canadian North Dash vs 737

Post by Krashman »

Anyone know the what the sched is like for the Dash guys or the 737 guys?

Dash works up in the high arctic so you're probably on a rotation?

737 is back and forth to YEG alot so are the pilots too?

Pilot bases are Edmonton and Calgary. Dash 8 flying is out of Yellowknife and Iqaluit with 90% in Iqaluit so it does require spending a lot of time there. There are no set rotations as of yet but they may be coming. Dash 8 pairings are normally 6 to 7 days.

737 flying is varied between a lot of single day pairings and 2 to 6 day pairings with the 6 day pairings being out of Ottawa.

Passes start after 6 months but there are jumpseat agreements with AC, WJ, Jazz, and a few other carriers.

Starting salary was just moved to status pay for both 737 and Dash 8 while on probation due to the need for direct entry 737 F/Os. Don't know what it is.

A 737 ground school just started a few days ago and I see there is another add for more pilots so I would expect another class soon. No idea on interview calls though.

Can anybody clarify how the status pay exactly works and what kind of salary one could expect?

Is there any truth of them hiring direct entry Capts or at least a fast upgrade?

Status pay means that for the probationary period the pay is the same for a new hire Dash or Boeing F/O. This prevents pilot group problems when a Dash class is followed by a Boeing class.

No chance of direct entry into the Boeing left seat and I have no idea about the Dash.
