Sept 22 2009
The IRIAF Il-76MD "Simorgh" jet was destroyed in an accident near Tehran, killing all seven crew members. The "Simogorh" is an Il-76 jet modified with a radar dome on top of the fuselage for airborne early warning and control (AEW&C). It has been reported that the crew reported an engine fire. While maneuvering for an emergency landing at Tehran-Mehrabad Airport (THR) runway 29L the radar dome detached, striking the tail fin. Control was lost and the airplane crashed.

I'm feeling that this video might not be legit. Something doesn't look right about it...and the fact that they added the thud of the plane hitting the ground which can be heard over the wind noise, the sound of the two J-79s in the Phantom, and the the engines of the tanker they were filming from...I don't know...

I didn't hear a thud. Doesn't look fake to me.

Shrug, I must be old and deaf, but I didn't hear anything from the impact. Additionally, there's only 13 seconds of video following the impact and that looks like it was over 3 miles away which would mean the sound would not have had time to reach the camera anyways.

Unfortunately the video looks legit. I don't think if someone were to fake that they would throw in other sound effect. A sad event.

Guess nobody noticed the 'source' at the end of the first post. The aircraft was one of three operated by Iraq - this one was flown to Iran during the Persian Gulf War - at the end Iran kept it for reparations from the Iraq-Iran war.

No one read the text above the video either:
It is believed that it collided with an F-5E escort plane on route to Iran-Iraq War anniversary fly-by in southern Tehran.
It's legit, read about this about a year ago from another source.
Thanks for posting the vid.
