Jazz Sim Eval
Can anyone who has recently done the sim evaluation give me an idea of what to expect? I have a rough idea but I am looking for more details. Do they always use the same airport, approaches, etc? How much time do they give you to look over the power settings, procedures, SOP's?
Can anyone tell me what power settings work best for the different phases of the evaluation (holds, normal approach, single engine approach, etc.)?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Jazz Sim Eval
they give you everything you need to know including the power settings, the speeds....you will have 30 min to familiar yourself with those procedures. the scenario is at the airport you are the most familiar with. the goal is to see how you fly and most of all how you interact with the other crew member: CRM. If you don t remember something ask the other pilot. he is here to help. there is no trick! He won t fly the plane for you but he can take control for a short while when you need to do a briefing. if you are in the sim for the evaluation, they want to hire you. they just need to justify their investment because your training will cost a lot to the company.
t/o , steep turns, hold, a 2 engine ndb approach, missed, engine fire, 1 engine ILS approach, landing. Hand flying only, no flight director. they won't tell you anything about your performance.
use the search button and you will get a lot of infos
remember: no trick. good luck. Jazz is an awesome company to work for.

Re: Jazz Sim Eval
They will give you a sheet with standard/basic dash 8 SOP calls for an engine failure (i.e. "malfunction, MAX power"). Let the PNF do everything else, just remember to confirm and actions ("confirm L power lever", "confirm", etc). They also provide you with torque settings and speeds. I've said it before, don't try be a hero in the sim, have a good situational awareness, TALK, TALK, TALK to your PNF, ask him/her to get things done for you (shutting down an engine).
Most of all, as hard as it may be, relax, have fun, when the flight is done, thank your PNF for a job well done.
P.S. I've got the script somewhere at home. PM me and might have found.

Re: Jazz Sim Eval
this thread reminds me of a very similiar one back in the late 90's or was it early 2000's? The Avcanada poster who supplied a turn by turn commentary of what he experienced in the sim eval over at Canadian Regional was figured out and told not to bother showing up for the groundschool... Jazz is under different management now, so I'm sure it's no biggy...
It's a sim eval, and you're supposed to go in there blind and show off your skills, not memorizing a bunch of maneuvers.
Truth is, you're better off NOT knowing what to expect. Every guy I've ever seen blow a sim ride or eval did it because they were anticipating and thinking too much, instead of just reacting to what was thrown at them and just flying the plane.

Turns out I don't have it after all. Sorry. It's a breeze nevertheless. Don't sweat it too much.

Re: Jazz Sim Eval
So.... did my sim eval last night.... came out of it feeling like I got kicked in the nuts by a mule...
First time in a sim so it was a bit weird, especialy the lag and lack of feel for changes in power. Anyways I don't think I broke any PPC limits, and used two crew and CRM.... but I felt like I flew it like a sloppy drunk...
So just wondering from guys who gone thru it if they have gotten any feedback from HR about their sim eval on the follow up call that was either a PFO or continuing to the medical. Most guys have heard back in 1-2 days but I get to stew all long weekend.... Would really appreciate a PM or post to give me an idea...
