CYYC RWY16 Excursion April 14

Post by bawlsdeep »

Calgary airport closed UFN. Sounds like it might be a Sunwing aircraft. Hopefully no injuries.

The Calgary airport is still getting aircraft arrival and departing, although most are late due to the snow. Days like today make me wish I lived in Vancouver. :(

A Sunwest metro, doesn't sound like a big deal.

If it snowed like this in Vancouver they'd have to turn you around.

We were inbound at the time and were told the airport was closed due to a disabled aircraft on runway 16. Asked for our intentions, as we had lots of fuel we asked for a hold. They were only using and clearing 16, we had to hold while they cleared 28 of the 8-10 inches of heavy wet snow. 30 mins plus or minus a few, we were inbound for 28.
The aircraft in question went into the grass, just north of taxiway A, they went straight instead of about 10 degrees right. The tracks didn't look like they would've been in the way but I can't say for sure that their nose wasn't past the hold line.
To clarify, we saw the tracks on the next flight in, while landing on 16 about 6 hours later.

No - the aircraft did not leave the runway. Crew stopped it before it left the pavement.

There is more to that than you know.

CADORS

"The crew of CNK 1020, a Sunwest Aviation Metro, taxied to position on Runway 16 and subsequently taxied off the threshold into the grass on the west side just south of the holding bay. The aircraft was disabled there and Runway 16 was closed to arrivals until the aircraft was removed. There was no reported damage. "
