Jazz is Done.

Post by oldtimer »

Saw an article in this evenings television news that says Jazz is done. I believe it is just the name that is being dumped. The new name is supossed to be Air Canada Express.
Does anyone know the effect of this decision? Is it just a name change or are big things, good or bad, happening?

The average pilot, despite the somewhat swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.
These feelings just don't involve anyone else.

Not quite. ACE is the AC answer to Porter. Why they didn't use Jazz for the flying? Hurt feelings, labor whiplashing, introduction of a c level payscale...
Who knows?

I've said it for years. The most profitable sector of aviation is aircraft paint.

I guess we now find out what it's like to work for a company like Colgan, Comair, et al.

I think the new Colgan contract is actually quite good. I ran into one of the Q400 Captains about a month ago, he said with their new contract he is going from about $70 HR to $103 an hour this year.

Uhhhh, no. The Q400 Captains got a 50% pay raise. Good on them.

The uplift in the hourly pay rate at Colgan and the other carriers part of Pinnacle Aviation have seen improvements in the latest CBA negotiated by their union, in this case, ALPA.

Say what you will, there will always be those who believe that non union is the way to go, might work for some might not for others. In the case of Colgan, it has no doubt demonstrated to be a major improvement over previous conditions.

A name change and paint job on the outside of the aircraft is hardly indication that Jazz is done. What is pathetic is that there seem to be some on this board that relish the idea of Jazz being done and "living on borrowed time". Our contract may not be perfect, but it is a hell of a lot better than the pay and working conditions of many other carriers in this country.

Jazz is Done? Not the most appropriate thread title. How about Jazz rebranded by ACE or Jazz about to get new paint jobs. Stupid thread based on a lot of nothing.

Were Colgan pilots members of the ALPA before the crash?

Did they get a pay bump as a result of brilliant negotiating? or because the national news media found out about the crap conditions the pilots were previously employed under and published them on the front page of every newspaper, making the company look bad?

It really does seem like some people are rooting for their demise, not saying anyone on this thread is but if that were to happen it would be devastating to everyone. Long live Jazz and every other good airline out there.

I know.... I am wondering what it is like if you multiply their hourly by their block and then divide it by their duty hours....

If I were young and just starting in aviation, Jazz would be one of my first choices for employment.....

....except I am not young anymore and flying for an airline is the last thing on my want to do list.

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no

After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

Just out of curiosity, if you're at 10 year F/O at Colgan and get upgraded to CA, do you go to year 10 CA wages?

The question on the public's mind remains "When will there be $29 fares"? :vom: :smt039
