Great outcome indeed. That said it does beg the question as to how it could have turned out had they been flying a more average aircraft then a cirrus. Had this been an a/c equipped with no A/P, no ballistic chute, and it was not merely hypoxia but perhaps a heart condition what the outcome would have been.
That is why it is incredibly important to brief your flying partner in basic flight maneuvers, and a/c operations. At the very least they help you out in a high workload situation, at the best they aren't guaranteed to die if you do.
