Re: Ground school.
Like pretty much every other part of flight instruction the quality of your ground school is totally dependent on the quality of the instructor. Some FTU ground schools are excellent, others are just terrible. Do your homework, ask around and then see how the first lesson goes. If the lesson is poorly presented by an unmotivated instructor then demand your money back.
Some of the online courses are quite good but a lot of people find it easier and more pleasant to learn in a classroom setting with the ability to ask questions and interact with other students.
What ever you choose you get out what you put in. I have very little time for students who don't do their homework or make an effort to pay attention in class.

While in-person ground school can be fun and entertaining, nothing beats self-study. Being that on-line, or books, research or combination.

Re: Ground school.
The books worked for me, then one on one for the tough stuff. Especially that damn INRAT she was tough.
