I've heard a rumour the Exchange Income Corporation was looking to buy SkyRegional. That would make for quite a large regional airline.

I've heard a rumour that that rumour is just a rumour.

Read on http://www.pilotcareercenter.com/Air-Ca ... nes%2c+Inc that they are planning to expend quickly to YOW and New York and double the fleet by next year.

Any more info on that ?

Out of the island? I didn't think they had the slots for much expansion.

I guess they have more slots than I originally thought. For some reason I swear I heard they only had a handful, but this article says they're just 14 slots short of Porter.http://toronto.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/ ... ntoNewHome

Earlier this year, regional carrier Air Canada Express began operating flights to the airport. The airline recently won the right to 30 of the airport's 90 slots. Porter retains 44 of those spots, while 16 went to U.S.-based Continental (NYSE:CAL).

I'm pretty sure those numbers were the new slots that were added, leaving porter will all the slots they had for years, PLUS another 44 slots.

Porter Airlines Inc. has won another 16 daily slots at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, beating out Air Canada (AC.B-T1.46-0.07-4.58%) for the right to introduce new flights at the terminal.

“We look forward to providing service to new destinations for our passengers,” Porter president Robert Deluce said in a statement Thursday. “We will make specific route announcements as plans are finalized for 2012.”

I guess that will probably end the expansion unless it comes from Jazz's flying.

30 slots/5 planes. That's it - that's all. And the loads are a joke.

Enjoy it while it lasts. With all of the hiring going on, watch for lots of pilot turnover at SKY (and associated costs).

Terrible loads. Georgian could do it with seats to spare!

Any idea what would happen if AirCanada pulls the plug on YTZ for SkyRegional?
Would they have to use them elsewhere in the system by the terms of their CPA or are they obligated to use them at YTZ until the end of the contract? Any idea for how long their CPA runs?

5 year deal. AC is the primary lessor of the aircraft. It is highly likely that there is the ability for AC to terminate the agreement with notice and reasonable cost recovery to SKY. AC could redeploy subject to agreement with SKY.

We left Toronto Island on Porter last week for Montreal, my friend went with Air Canada Express. The Porter flight I was on had a full load, when we landed in Montreal my collegue said I should have gone with him as there were only seven passengers on his flight with lot`s of room. . I would say Porter is the carrier of choice out of downtown Toronto for most, although the flight was full the service was first class. My question is how can Air Canada afford to operate with such a low passenger count?

Porter managed to do it, why can't AC? I've heard stories of Porter flying to MDW and NY with less than 10 people on it.

Looking at today's flights AC has around 10 to 20 people on the morning flights but the afternoon flights have 10 to 15 seats open. Can't really base an opinion of how their doing by looking at 1 flight!

Also heard stories of WJ operating the triangle (or V) routes with 10 to 20 people. And that's on a 737!

September 23, 2011

Regional carrier Porter Airlines has won another 16 takeoff and landing slots at Toronto City Airport, topping a rival application from Air Canada, the country's biggest airline.

ACL, a UK-based company specializing in airport slot allocation, selected Porter to take the slots at the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, Geoff Wilson, president and chief executive of the Toronto Port Authority (TPA) said in a statement.

The TPA is a federal agency that owns and operates the island airport, which is minutes from Toronto's financial district and a convenient hub for business travelers.

The 16 slots were originally awarded to Continental Airlines, which gave them up when it merged with United.

Air Canada and the much smaller Porter were the only bidders for the vacant slots, Wilson said.

Porter, a closely held regional airline that operates in Eastern Canada and into the United States, had a monopoly on flying out of Billy Bishop Airport until May when Air Canada launched services there.

So does this means that any further expansion of SKY Reg. is on hold since the slots are gone to Porter??

I'm guessing no slots = no expansion. Unless they're going to cancel some YUL runs and dedicate those slots to another route? That wouldn't be expanding though.
