Flight Ops - Toronto - career development opportunity
Hi all,
Hopefully this is an opportunity that interests a few of you here - please contact Philip directly at the email below for more information.
--------------------------
As part of our overall service to Airline and Corporate customers, World Air Ops provides Operational Assistance to aircraft operators around the globe. Our International Ops Centre (IOC) is on Queen St. East in downtown Toronto, and we have a number of opportunities for locally based people to join us for a period as Interns.
On a part-time basis, you'll join our operations team and learn about international flight operations - Trip planning, Route planning, Flight planning, Weather forecasting and interpretation, Air Traffic Control, and Operational decision-making. You'll also have a chance to get involved with our project team on longer term assignments like Delivery and Ferry Flights, Safety Reviews, Remote region operations, Route Reviews and a variety of Airline support projects.
You must have!
-A passion for aviation, and an interest in learning the operational side of the industry.
-A good knowledge of worldwide geography.
-An understanding of aviation terminology specific to the flight operations area.
-Be available at least a few days a week.
You might be already pursuing a CPL, an Aviation Degree, a Flight Dispatcher course, or just have an interest in this side of the Industry. This is a great opportunity to get involved in a live operational environment, learn how Flight Operations works behind the scenes, and potentially make some contacts to further your own career.
We anticipate some significant interest in this program. To allow us to manage the selection process efficiently, please send us a short email or letter outlining why this opportunity interests you, and what you hope to gain from spending time at our operation. We're looking for motivated, enthusiastic people with a strong interest in aviation.
Please make initial contact and communication through Philip Degare, using the email ioc.intern@worldairops.com. No phone calls please. We look forward to hearing from you!

Re: Flight Ops - Toronto - career development opportunity
An intern position? As in unpaid intern?
1) PFO
2) Shouldn't this be in the free job ads. As in job ads for free labour.
To all new CPL's: This is the kind of crap that will NOT help you get a job in the future. Actually most chief pilot's will trash your resume if they see you're willing to work for free. The wages you work for reflect the value you put on yourself. If you work for nothing, you put no value on yourself and no one wants to hire an employee who doesn't value their skills.

Hopefully the OP will clarify what the arrangement here actually is, but I think it's worth pointing out that most internships in Ontario are governed by the Emoyment Standards Act, including the minimum wage requirements. More information is available on the Ministry of Labour's web site:

This would likely be federally regulated and the Canada Labour Code would be the applicable legislation.

Dear Bede,
Thank you for your response. I can certainly clarify that this is not an unpaid position.
Thank you,
Natasha.

If it is a paid position then why not state that in the initial post? I too was under the impression of you folks getting someone in to answer the phone, take messages and get coffee.
Kowalski: Sir, we may be out of fuel.
Skipper: What makes you think that?
Kowalski: We've lost engine one, and engine two is no longer on fire.
