HST due?

Post by comfail »

Hey, I'm an Alberta resident looking to purchase an aircraft located in Ontario (private deal), it will be registered here in Alberta of course but I'm wondering if I have to pay the extra 13% HST? I can't seem to find any info regarding my exact scenario, at least tax jargon that I can understand. Thanks for any help.

private deal is easy as you have to do the taxes yourself if applicable when registering.

if bought at a business they would have to waive the taxes, not sure if they have the ability to charge only gst or not in an hst province.

Thanks for the link brownbear. It appears I should be ok based on what they say. I'd just rather not have an expensive surprise down the road if I can help it.

If you operate in an HST environment, as a business you charge the rate of HST that applies in the jurisdiction in which the item/service is registered, consumed, whatever. If it was sold in ontario and registered in AB, you'd just pay 5% when you register it. If you bought it in bc (12% HST) and registered it in Ontario, you'd actually pay the 13% when you register it.
