Star Wars entire saga bluray.
We grabbed this yesterday at the best buy sale $79.99. Our kids have not seen them yet. We started with episode 4 the original movie everyone of course enjoyed it.
I understand how a couple of added scenes look a little funny but I enjoyed them especially adding Jabba the hut. Anyone here a purist and angered by the alterations?

We watched "Episode IV A New Hope" and they loved it. I think you have to be fairly mature to really pick out the details that date it. Mostly computer graphics and the lights not being LEDs where one would be used now.
It must be the biggest popular culture thing in the world. It's funny because they both knew Darth Vader but almost everything else was introduced to them. Part of why I decided it was time was because I was at a hobby shop with the five year old and he asked me who the full sized R2D2 model was. I tried to explain but I could tell he wasn't quite getting it.
Most of what they watch is animation when it comes to movies or things like Marmaduke so they are not jaded toward space type things. I did start watching the original Battle Star Galactica TV series with the 8 year old. She was enjoying it but we have not had a chance to get too far into it because of summer.

We have the entire set. My kids watched them over and over for over a year before they went on to something else.

I still want the theatrical releases on Bluray.
But...
But...
no sig because apparently quoting people in context is offensive to them.

Only a few of them. I don't mind the added scenes, only the altered (not updated: altered) ones. Adding CG is fine. Jabba was supposed to be in episode 4 originally, so fine. Wampa attack on the hoth base, fine. Greedo didn't shoot first, there's not reason to basically block out the screen with needless CG animals when the enter Mos Eisley, and inserting Vader's pathetic "nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo" from episode III in Return of the Jedi was stupid.Beefitarian wrote: I understand how a couple of added scenes look a little funny but I enjoyed them especially adding Jabba the hut. Yeah, the bluray box set is 9 discs, one for each movie then three more for extra features. George has "fixed" them because they couldn't afford to put a few things like Jabba in the first movie because the CGI didn't exist. I can see how one scene looks out of place because of the new stuff but I didn't even get to see the original in the theatre so nothing in it bothered me. I'll have to see if I notice things in "The Empire Stikes Back."
Someone mentioned buying the Lazer Disks on another site. I wonder if they will ever release the theatrical version on Bluray or something with higher resolution. I'm watching the commentary and they are talking about how in 1977 most theatres were still running mono sound systems and how they had done several sound tracks to address mixing issues that presented.
We had a house fire two years ago and one of the few good things about it was that my wife was told they couldn't save our TV so she raced out on boxing day and we got a giant HD flat screen on sale, the sound's ok but the picture is spectacular.

One of the best things about bluray is Dolby TruHD and DTS HD Master. Not sure if the movies are mastered in one of these. Sound is more than half the viewing experience. Gotta have a proper system to go with the HD TVs. That would blow the old mono right out of the water.

Blu-what!?
Got IV V and VI on DVD a couple years back because the VHS gave up the ghost as my son was coming of age (5) to watch these. Of course, he loved them and III as well.
Still haven't shown him II. We watched the Phantom Menace when my son was 6 on Youtube and were at the scene when Jar Jar fries his lips on the pod racer when he says 'dad... when is that guy going to go away?'
I've watched them so many times I can't watch them any more.

Stereo can be awesome and better then cheap surround. I've only got stereo right now, because I can't afford the centre and rears yet. In time.
But I'm happy with my stereo on these for now:

That pic is off the internet. Meant as music speakers, but do a good job of movies too. I wish I could afford the rest.

Re: Star Wars entire saga bluray.
III to me is arguably the best (I know, sacrilege) mainly because it is dark like Empire Strikes Back, it is full of action, I haven't watched it a zillion times, the special effects matured and didn't overwhelm the story line, the absence of Jar Jar, and because it ties into Episode IV.
All of the above being said with my George Lucas glasses on. With any of his movies you have to tolerate the poor character development, the awkward dialogue, and the overly 'thematic for dummies' plot lines. Kind of like comparing Grape Pop to Cabernet Sauvignon.
But yet it still permeates our culture.
