No from my understanding AC still has 37 on order, and I think they are planned to replace the 767.

They should cancel this program, its late and over budget. There is no reason why airlines can't just buy proven A330's.

Shush frosti. I want to see if they can slice a building as good as those A-380s have been.

Is it the 330 that sheds the rudder? I get 'em mixed up. :)

What's the rudder for, is it a tail dragger?

Can I assume you have a hobbyist's interest in aviation?

Airlines could also buy the proven 727 but I don't think Boeing sells many these days.

How exactly did you come up with that conclusion? Fan Boy much? Both companies delivered new designs that are overweight and under perform when compared to their paper design. Of course once all the kinks are worked out then we'll see which plane performs better. Boeing should be glad that ANA didn't reject the first delivery like CargoLux did.

It is a shame to see how overall, aircraft manufacturers are having such a hard time these days. Programs are delayed, over budget, etc.
Think of the Raptor, F-35, Dreamliner, A-380, etc...
With automated design and manufacturing, things should get easier, not worse...

When you push the limits of current technology, delays and cost overruns are bound to happen. People only criticize programs when they are still in development or the testing stage. This is easy when you don't have all the facts, just internet fanboism and random articles from questionable sources.

A350 just as efficient and can carry more people.

Boeing has lost 787 sales because of the buzz surrounding the 350.

I am sure the three year delay had to do with it also.

I'd wait to see if this time around, Airbus can build as good a plane as advertised. So far it's all hot air.

Correct me if I'm wrong....

But I had someone who should have known tell me years ago that in general the per operating hour maintenance costs for any of the Airbuses is considerably higher than the comparable Boeing - is that a myth? an over exaggeration? someone's biased opinion?

I think so too...
My opinion, and you are all entitled to yours as well, is that these companies have bigger problems today then say only 15 years ago because of, call it 'globalization' or exportation of jobs. I mean, just look at the percentage of outside companies supplying parts and major components for both Boeing and Airbus!!? Wings are made on one side of the ocean, tail on the other, and they all have to be delivered and assembled somewhere else!? All that to save cost apparently and increase productivity and efficiency? Great idea, but the problem is these same suppliers are 'milking' the manufacturer because they know they can. Once the project is on the way, you are almost holding the manufacturer 'ransom' as you know it will be hard, if not impossible for them to get rid of you (if you performance/output) is not up to standard as you will likely cause a chain reaction delaying every other supplier if you are let go. That's just my view on it. The second is like someone said already, use of new materials and composites never used before on a large scale production and that will always impact your on time performance.

Time will tell, but I think both A350 and B787 will be up to a great challenge to prove them selves.

AIR CANADA PROVIDES UPDATE TO BOEING 787 DELIVERY SCHEDULE

MONTREAL, March 8 /CNW Telbec/ - Boeing has notified Air Canada that the first five deliveries of its Boeing 787 aircraft, previously scheduled to be delivered in the second half of 2013, are now targeted for delivery during Q4, 2013 and the first half of 2014. This represents an average delay of between five and seven months from the previous schedule.

Boeing has indicated that they continue to evaluate the schedule for deliveries of Air Canada's remaining 32 firm orders for Boeing 787 aircraft and would provide Air Canada with an update when available.

Contractors do that all the time. Put in a bid simply nobody can't afford to do the job for to get the contract, then charge "a more realistic price" during production. It trickles up to the customer when the final project ends up "over budget".

A friend of mine used to work AC maintenance. He was saying the 767's could take a beating and they would just keep running but that the old 340's (in direct comparison) needed much more love. Just what I've heard from him, don't know about other models.

Hey man, those long continental shifts can be a drag, so a little bit of 'excitement' to make the shift go by is not so bad.
