Sunwest or Cariboo
If you had the choice to be a Turbine Captain at Sunwest or Cariboo where would you go and why.

sunwest seems to run thier crews alittle tight, where NCA gets a good schedule. I know pilots at both companies and I would say that NCA seems to have higher moral.
Cheers.

Cariboo holds more promise over Sunwest... and I think over the next few years they will continue to steal business from them.
With new jets arriving at NCA, it looks very bright. While SWHA is becoming more and more a old buddie's network.
It's very hard for FO's to get upgraded at SWHA, (I know of 2 Beech captains who got Lear captain PPCs a year ago...only to rot in the right seat. Last I heard the CP told them he'll be hiring one of his buddies off the street for the Captain slots).
I think NCA is very shrewdly run as a company, and will be the company to get on in the future.
I'm ashamed to say SWHA isn't the company it once was... and word is getting out

I want to die like my grandfather did, peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming in terror like his passengers...
To tell you the truth I'm surprised that cariboo has been getting such overwhelming votes. It's not that I don't think that that NCA is a good, or even very good compnay. I was always under the impression that sunwest home was one of the best spots in canada to end up if charter is your thing. I'm happy to hear that NCA is at that level or higher.
It's nice to hear about a good company rather then all the crap ones out there once and a while.

Both have about the same working conditions. Pilots are slave to the grind and its not necessary a bad thing. There are treated as fair as this industry allows. The pilots from both companies are a good lot. I know a lot of them and they have the same gripes as I did when I flew charters.
I think Cariboo will have a better future is because managment. Where RH of Sunwest seems to strive on trying to get corporate flight departments to shut down and fly with him. Cariboo instead will operate an aircraft on behalf of a company not actively seek to shut down a flight department. Now if this policy changes at Cariboo who knows. IMHO

Before everyone falls over themselves trying to jump on the Cariboo bandwagon, we should step back and take a realistic look at them both. If you go to Sunwest you will probably fly more " middle management ' type of people...Cariboo has their roots deep into the crew change business, so that means it will be more "rig Pigs" and all that that entails. Cariboo has smartly got into bed with the first nations groups (read DEH CHO) who control access to the areas vital oil drilling areas....so before everyone hands Cariboo the crown , realize that the competition is often forced away from landing at select oil strips in these areas. This also affects AIRCO, BOREK, ALTA, and Sunwest. Cariboo wins beacause of there relationship with these groups and with Canadian North. Sunwest has 20 jets Cariboo 4...... Cariboo probably upgrades more quickly beacause of their fleet dynamics King Airs versus Metro's , citation verses Facon 900 etc..... MY TWO CENTS
This is just a stupid debate. They are BOTH good companies. Yes Sunwest has some nice planes. So does Cariboo. To put all Cariboo's success because they are in bed with the native band? Again not that informed of an opinion. Yes they do have a good relationship with them. They should have. They have been in business for over 45 years. In case you do not know that is the longest any charter sompany in western Canada has been in business. Cariboo used to be as big as they are now running DC3's, Convairs, Vickers. A lot of their success has nothing to do with the native band up in the northwest. After all they will be doing a lot of work up in the northeast and that has nothing to do with the deh cho band. They have a good management with a head on their shoulder. On the other hand, Sunwest obviously has a good repor with the oil companies or they would not be operating their multi million dollar jets. I think it is a good thing they are both around. They keep the competition up but yet I do not think they are willing to cut throat each other on pricing.
