I'm not an apple fanboy but it seems to be the one with the lead on aviation related apps.

I'm sure you want to avoid learning and doing things for yourself so I won't tell you ogc is totally right.

Most people here (and I would agree) would tell you to keep doing it the basic way (paper, pencil, e6b) as a student. Worry about the bells and whistles later.

Once you have the basics figured out, an iPad will make your life easier. I use Foreflight and JeppView for flight planning. I bet there are a bazillion apps that will do the w&b on a C-172 as well.

For checklists, I just emailed a .pdf of our aircraft checklists to myself on the iPad, then opened it in iBooks. It saves a copy to the iPad so you'll have it.

In fact, all our company manuals are now on the iPad - our Ops Manual just specifies that if we are gonna go purely electronic storage, that we have to have the manuals on 2 separate sources (ie 2 iPads or 2 laptops or 1 laptop / 1 iPad etc). We have it on at least 3, as well as having all our manuals on a USB stick onboard as well.

If you have a Mac, download the Desktop version of PilotWizz. Quite the impressive free application, and it's available on iOS devices too.

As a student pilot you'll have your handfull with flying and learning. I think the Ipad thing is just gonna increase your work load. A folded piece of paper stuck between the dash and the windshield will be a lot easier for you to use than taking the ipad out me thinks.

Welcome to YOUR forum and congrats on your first solo!!!

Cheers

You might as well do what these guys are saying and just use the Whiz-Wheel or CX-2 calculator.
If you go and learn all your flight planning on an Ipad or whatever, they'll NEVER let you take an unapproved device into the exam room, and you won't find that out until you're booked and standing at the counter. Then you're fucked.
Wait until you're at least done with the written exams before wasting your time learning on that.

By the way Beef, though you ripped on me in my discontinued thread, your post with the "Posted Via Ipad" was brilliant.

blranch, welcome to the gong show
