Can't stand reading all these passenger reports. It is not clear though if it was an actual engine failure or if it was just a precautionary engine shut down, right?

I found it interesting passengers are annoyed that the pilots were too busy to chat with them. I'd rather they flew the plane and got us safely on the ground again.

My goodness. When did all media outlets copy the Enquirer or TMZ model of reporting? Sensationalism (bullshitting) at its best. I especially like this quote (and I'm sure you all noticed it too): "I knew it was the engine because I looked out the window … and you could see it."   That's like saying "I knew it was air because I was breathing it". This person is clearly highly enlightened when it comes to airplanes. "Sooooo, this is the engine, eh?"

Or: It looked like the Flight Attendant didn't know what was going on. No shit, sherlock. That's probably because even after having gotten a brief description from the flight crew, who are a little busy at that time assessing the situation, he/she still wouldn't truly know what was "going on" other than what they were trained to do in the event of an emergency. That's because they're not pilots (don't tell O'Leary that, though). Besides, engine failures occur frequently across the globe. This one is in no way more important/sensational/different than any other one. Sounds like the AC crew handled it professionally.

It's mind boggling that passengers are treated as cattle when boarding an aircraft are suddenly "intelligent" persons when interviewed by the press. The average passenger is as "dumb as a stump" in all things aviation related. I ignore everything in the press in regards to passenger remarks.
Good thing they had a second engine in their Jungle Jet......a shot at all you PC12 pundits.

Here's what I find interesting. The story you guys are talking about is very typical of the media. The reporters are looking for a story and never let facts get in the way....just remember its that way with ALL news.

Never, never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

The lesson here is that if the plane immediately goes into "shutdown mode", you should run to the front of the plane and..

Oh, never mind.
