Why oh why must people insist on handing in five page resumes with every job they ever had. Make cover letters that weep poetic about them as a person and not how their skills apply to the job they are applying for and never give a reference. Countless times the CP and I will see resumes that look worse than what a grade 10 business teacher would accept, full of spelling and grammar errors. They work against you and not for you. Please please please, get it proof read by someone if you can. If you cant, go to the EI office they have people that can help you. I'd rather see a resume that does not quiet reach the qualifications we want than, see one that meets them but is horribly put together (although they are good for comic relief sometimes). Even pick the brains of the experts here. There are some really snappy resumes and resume makers here. "Good Luck" to everyone still in the hunt this year. People say first impressions mean a lot, well that resume of yours is a first impression... make it a good one.

Well along with the corrections that "wordstwice" already provided, read this sentence out loud to yourself. Weird place that you chose to break it up between "than" (unless I'm wrong which is entirely possible should be "then") and "see". Anyway, I'm not trying to bust your chops or be the language police. I just thought it was funny the way that you were here to preach about bad grammar and spelling, when your post is full of such errors.

You could start with the thread title. "Its" is a possessive pronoun. What you are looking for the contraction of it is: it's.

I couldn't say for sure but possibly everyone who can write properly has seen your company website and already decided to take a pass due to a poor first impression?

I have to agree though, resumes that are poorly put together, lack conciseness, or contain incorrect spelling and grammar do not make it into the interview pile.

Is it better to include references with your cover letter and resume when applying for a job or leave them out (Available upon request)? I've been told that it is better to hand in your references during the interview.

Include them - aviation is a small world and odds are the person you're handing your resume to knows them.

It's easy to dog pile on people here for bad grammar and spelling, but most of the time on these boards you aren't trying to make a good first impression while trying to get a job.

With a resume, you should not only have proofread it several times, but also get somebody else to read it through to make sure that your spelling, grammar, and syntax is correct.

There is an excellent thread stickied up at the top for how to make a good resume and cover letter.

However, in my experience a bad resume is entertainment and a good resume is just boring. What gets you the job will be being in the right place at the right time and making a good impression personally.

Im pretty sure proofreading a post on here is much different than proofreading a piece of writing you are submitting to someone who you want to hire you...not sure why theres all the hate, looks like he was just tryin to help some of you young guys sans jobs out.

I've seen some great ones in the last few years as a manager;

Photocopies instead of printed ones are interesting.
Saw one that was handwritten in actual cursive writing, crooked, and covered with whiteout.
Saw one a year ago that was literally printed with a dot matrix printer with an 8 bit font.
Received one last week that listed "Stay at home mom" and listed the daily duties associated with it.
Saw a 3 page resume for a 800 hour guy with about 3 paragraphs of duties for each position (I was shown it because my faaaaavorite operator, SkyDive Toronto was on it! He was sure to list "Heavy Wide body 182" on it. No word of a lie.)

BUT there is one that takes the cake in recent memory. The candidate listed, under "Continued Education", the class he took to make the resume!
I think he should ask for a refund.

I always feel bad laughing about resumes, and I feel sympathetic for the candidates. They're trying just as hard as everyone else, they just don't have the help they need with marketing themselves.
